Someone sell me on him. Am I the only one whose success as a GM is based off of working with a team where money is basically no object? No thank you.

No doubt the money helps, but I think he's a pretty sharp guy. I believe some of his worst moves were shoved down his throat by the Steinbrenners. He can certainly withstand pressure. And he deserves some credit for navigating his way through the minefield that is the Yankee organization with virtually two separate front offices (one in Tampa and one in New York).

Cash Man making $6mill this year. I agree, give me the open checkbook and I am a great GM too.

But, you have to give the guy some credit. They didnt sign Dunn, Rios, Soriano,Z, Werth, Crawford, etc. For the number of big deals they have signed the potential for a huge bust, like Dunn, is much greater.

They have had their share of busts. AJ Burnett, Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa, Hideki Irabu, Jason Giambi and he traded for Javy Vazquez. I'm not saying he's a bad GM but any aggreessive organization is going to have swings and misses.

I don't know about Cashman, other than providing some potential humor fodder for stoneroses.

Girardi though, he might look pretty good on the bench.

He didn't trade for Ubaldo. From the beginning, he said that the Rafael Soriano was a bad deal and not his decision. He signed Russell Martin. He held on to Montero.

It would be more comforting if he could assemble a solid pitching staff though.

My "gut" tells me that I don't want this guy as GM. Yes, there have been some big misses as Keysor points out in this thread....but when the yankees miss on a guy, they simply go out and buy another guy to replace. Payroll over $200M. The Cubs, when they miss on a guy (take your pick on all the misses), they have to wait out the contract(s). Z, Soriano, etc,,,

At least that has been the way in the past.

I have been on vacation and missed this gem of a thread. Is The Satan Elf to the Cubs an actual rumor? If so, it needs to gain serious traction - rapidly. You wanted to be sold? Here is all you need to know. Every time comedian A.J. Burnett pretends to be a pitcher, I think of this photograph.

"Hey Brian, Cliff Lee's agent is on the telephone."

"Tell him I will call him back. Can you not see that I am busy?"
