I think it depends on what the Bears defense wants to be. Looking at the stats Arch obviously blitzes more and Brown finds himself playing centerfield more. The injuries don't seem to be a big deal since Arch only has 4 more games. If the money is about the same we should keep Brown.

I hope this isn't true! Why we would take this contract on is beyond me, AND give up a 4th or 5th round draft choice is insane, and I hope just a bad rumor when you can get him for no draft choices, and hopefully a better deal on the open market.

Adam Archuleta article from Nfl.com

Adam Schefter's "Around the League" reports and commentaries can be seen regularly on NFL Total Access.

(March 19, 2007) -- Randy Moss is the headliner on the trading block, but he is far from the only player.

Before Moss is dealt -- and it now looks as if it is only a matter of time before it happens -- one of the next players expected to be traded is Washington's safety Adam Archuleta, who will most likely wind up in Chicago.

Archuleta is expected to be traded for a mid-round conditional pick that could improve for Washington depending on how well the safety performs. The trade would help the Redskins recoup a draft pick in an offseason when Washington would like to add as many as possible.

Adam Archuleta could be headed to Chicago where he'll be reunited with coach Lovie Smith.
Before Washington trades Archuleta, it is first trying to restructure the safety's contract so as to soften his salary-cap blow once he is dealt. Chicago is the natural landing spot for him primarily because of head coach Lovie Smith, who has coveted Archuleta ever since he took over as the Bears head coach in January 2004.

Smith was Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis, and believes he knows just how to deploy the versatile safety. It is the reason that Smith tried trading for Archuleta two seasons ago, then wanted to sign him last offseason before the Redskins swooped in with a monstrous record contract for Archuleta.

Smith believes he can help Archuleta return to being the defensive presence he was in St. Louis rather than the disappointment he was last season in Washington. Smith likely would plan to play Archuleta closer to the line of scrimmage, as a weapon against the run, rather than ask him to be a centerfielder against the pass.

If you ask Adam to cover someone, you're asking for trouble. This is why he ended up on the bench in Washington.

and pay him $5 guaranteed over 3 seasons...not that bad if they are going to start him at SS, and move Brown back to FS. I can deal with that, and we still have Harris/Manning for depth, plus it takes safety off the board early on in the draft.

great move! Didn't give up much, not bad on the salary-cap. Plus, it takes away a need for the upcoming draft.

Well done!

I don't see the Bears cutting Brown, only because he has only the 1 year deal at about 2.3 million left on the deal. Brown may be upset if he's asked to move back to FS, but he hasn't been healthy, and Archuleta is a great fit for the defense.

Great move. I think this will be better for the Bears in the short term and better for Manning in the long run.
