Of course. He probably wished that every team in the league was bidding for him. However, he was happy with what the Bears offered and said so.

He was mad about his previous contract situation but was happy with the deal he is currently on. That was until he finally hit the part where he makes less because it was front loaded.

Safe to assume he wasnt a Finance major in college I take it.

Everything an athlete says about money at press conferences is 100% truth.

What was he gonna say?

Well Im still underpaid, but this is the best I can get right now, so Im gonna play my ass off and holdout again in 3 years?

Anyways, things can change. Even if he was happy with the contract.

I dont understand why you have a problem with Briggs asking his boss for a raise. Im not saying they should give him one.

The way the contracts in the NFL are setup is unfair. Just because the players union wasnt able to fix it doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

He signed the deal that was best for him. Are you saying he didn't find the deal acceptable?

My issue is more with the people who are saying that "It's not really a contract because he can be cut". I do have an issue with him taking it to the media though. Ask for a raise and get shot down. Don't once again make your contract a news story.

I think NFL contracts are fair. You get a ton of money up front, and the team can cut you if you aren't performing but you keep all that money. You still get paid the same. It's just structured differently. It's actually a benefit to the player because when they are cut they keep all that money, and then they can sign a new contract somewhere else that they fit in better.

Agreed. This changes my opinion that he might be an asshole. That said, throw a few million his way to make this go away. Bears are like 19million under the cap currently.

How long before Briggs claims the Bears are racist for not renegotiating his deal when they did it for Urlacher.

Yeah this is too much but I think the answer is easy

Jerry: We are not trading you. We are not renegotiating with you. You can play or you can sit out a year and lose your money, a year of your career (which is pretty valuable at your advanced age), and all public support.

The choice is yours, now get the hell out of my office.

This is not the kind of drama you need entering the season. This is what happens when you don't have Kruetz there to slap people back into line.

I kind of wonder if he is serious or not. He had to know how this would play out and I don't think he will retire.

LANCE: I snapped! It was the last straw. [sighs]

JERRY: So, what are you gonna do now? Are you gonna look for something else Football?

LANCE: Nobody's hiring now. The market's terrible.

JERRY: So what are you gonna do?

LANCE: I like sports. I could do something in sports.

JERRY: Uh-huh. Uh-huh. In what capacity?

LANCE: You know, like the general manager of a baseball team or something.

JERRY: Yeah. Well, that - that could be tough to get.

LANCE: Well, it doesn't even have to be the general manager. Maybe I could be like, an announcer. Like a caller man. You know how I always make those interesting comments during the game.

JERRY: Yeah. Yeah. You make good comments.

LANCE: What about that?

JERRY: Well, they tend to give those jobs to ex-ballplayers and people that are, you know, in broadcasting.

LANCE: Well, that's really not fair.

I just got a real nice raise, after asking for one a few months ago.

Its all about timing....thats what Lance has never understood.

Very stupid move. Kruetz services are needed.

Forte should beat Briggs ass, and tell him to wait his turn. Briggs just got a deal, so wait it out. Nobody wanted Briggs last time besides the 49ers, and now he is older, so good luck with that.

I was all over this forum arguing that they should let him walk the last time. He went to this churlish level once, and there was no reason to think he wouldn't again. It goes well beyond what should be accepted by the Bears.

Nice player, complete Caller Bob when it comes to negotiating...if you can all it that. More like guerrilla negotiating.

Briggs has some basis for this request of a restructured deal with an extension....they did it for Urlacher when they didn't have to. That was a mistake in that it set a bad precedent. they cannot and should not repeat that mistake. Let him bitch and moan. I doubt his play will suffer (hasn't in the past in these situations) or his bargaining power erodes. I would tell him that when the season ends they can talk about his options. If he wants to be dealt then, perhaps a deal can be made. but given the timing and lack of depth in the linebacking corps, it would not be prudent to deal him at this time. Should he have a Pro-Bowl season, perhaps an extension could be investigated at that point.

Let Rosenhaus seek a trade! What team is going to trade for him, when they currently see what a distraction he's causing right now, by feeling under-paid? He won't go anywhere because he's going to want more money to sign elsewhere and I can't see another team trading anything of value for him, THEN paying him the money he wants on top of that.

Let him seek a trade, then let him come crawling back with his tail between his legs when no other teams rush to acquire him.

Many people are afraid to ask for a raise. If you are a valued employee who makes money for the company that you work for, you will get what you ask for every time. I have gone to the well a few times & have never been turned down.
However, what Briggs is doing is just plain stupid. Fuck him. I hope the Bears tell him NO.
Matt Forte should kick his ass.

Briggs was held out of practice yesterday due to his lingering knee problem.
