Catch the game on ESPN3.com

Right now the NIU offense is picking up where it left off last season.

Early 2nd Qtr
28-6 NIU

35-6 Huskies

Army defense is just getting manhandled and our practically new starting defense is doing a good job holding up against the triple option offense.

It was nice of us to put in our backups so Army could score.

49-20 Huskies

There was a lot of questions heading into this game - I'd say they were answered in a positive way. 8)

Rain was steadily annoying and kept some of the crowd away, but we left when it was 49-6. Defense looks fast, which is good against the TO, but that's gonna lead to bad things against Wisconsin......

Never really got to see much of the no-huddle offense for an extended time - tough to go no huddle when the lineman gotta run 50-60 yards down the field for the next play. :D

NIU looked amazing. Army generally ain't an easy team to beat, but NIU made it look easy.

The next time Army is on tv (nbc) I am confident they will not only look better but probably win.

The game was such a blowout that it was hard to get a gauge on Doeren's in-game coaching abilities. But if we win games like this then i guess i can't complain.

Good start for NIU. Lots of kids from the western suburbs of Geneva & St. Charles on this team. They might just be the best team in the state.

I have no firm opinion on the matter, just thought Conns should at least throw up an alternative. I mean there have been years where they were the best in the state right?

I see what you are doing but I'll play along because I find it entertaining as well.

The answer to your question is "no" and last year is the prime example of why. NIU had its greatest season of all time, with a crushing bowl victory and had a chance to beat an inexperienced Illinois team with a Freshman QB making his 3rd start ever and NIU had to kick a meaningless FG at the end to even make it look close. Illinois lost 2 of their next 3, so they weren't playing well. NIU won 9 straight after that loss.

The Illinois team they played was average at best at that time and the Illini won handily. All arguments end.

We're talking about this year. Are the Illini ranked & I missed it?

I remember Schiller from Geneva and he looks to be starting. I think Santacterna and another d lineman from Geneva are contributing this year. One of the really good players off of Sycamore seems to have made the depth chart as a DB too. For some reason I see that Kaneland's very own boone thorgesen has left the team even though he had 1 year of eligibility left. He was kind of their practice squad version of Rudy. He would have started on day 1 at a DIII school and he only got a few plays 2 yrs ago in mop up time at NIU.

Yea, Schiller is a starting LB. Your close...its Santacaterina. Other Fox Valley kids are Frank Boenzi from Geneva, Jess Striedl from St. Charles East, & Bobby Winkle from Marmion in Batavia. I think Boone was moved to Corner. His Dad, the former Kaneland head coach, is buddies with Joe Novak & I think he was either working for Joe or helping out. Boone sure was fun to watch. For a few years, Kaneland, Geneva, & Batavia battled & played some of the greatest HS games that I have seen.

Schiller and Boone's (apparently roomies at NIU too) Sophomore through Senior years provided some great football. It sucks that Kaneland won't play them anymore but those 2 schools just got too damn big in a hurry and the projected population growth west of RT 47 cold stopped a few years ago. I don't really care for this new conference aside from it being one they can win every single year for the next decade. I don't care to see Wing T football.

Kaneland -vs Rochelle games are split 50%/50% run & pass. Kaneland passes 100% of the plays & Rochell runs 100% of the plays.
Rochelle has one of the nicest HS football stadiums & schools you'll ever see. How they can fund a facility like this in the middle of BFE is beyond me.

They are probably close enough to those reactors to have scored some serious money.

Youve got me all wrong. Im not a Northern supporter. I remember them being ranked in the top 25 pretty frequently over the last 8-10 years.

How bout an answer Doctor Kenneth Weisenheimer

A MAC school will almost always be ranked. It doesn't matter how good or bad they are. It just matters that they have a lot of wins and there are a bunch of MAC coaches that get a vote and are obviously going to give credit to the leader of the conference.

I'm not saying that all of them are undeserving of a ranking. NIU probably has been worthy of being in the top 25 but the whole thing is watered down because of it.
