Torchwood has always been about not trusting government and those in power. That's nothing new.

It just seems stale right now.

And it has always been on BBC.

How many episodes of 'The Office' did you watch before NBC picked it up?

All of them.

Haven't watched one episode of US series.

And Torchwood has always been aired on BBC America which is part of most basic cable/satellite packages.

So it has been more available than Starz

It's a good channel. I like a lot of the shows On Demand.

Doctor Who
Kitchen Nightmares
Gordon Ramsey's F Word
Luther

For me, the saving grace for this show is the fact that if I were to have a proper hour of passion with miss Eve Myles she wouldn't be able to walk for a couple'a weeks. I'd hit that so hard that the entire welsh language would rearrange itself into new and exciting patterns that would actually make sense to the non-initiated!

I'm really hoping it's something more nefarious than just some * yawns * social commentary on the nature of the pharmaceutical industry... Actually I've been hoping that the Rani, portrayed by Paul McGann in drag, is doing another one of her kooky experiments and this is the end result.

Incidentally, I finally found a 7th doctor torrent. Now I can spend quality hours of my life deciding if I wanna fuck ace.... joy of joys!

I've been watching and I'm hooked. Really like it so far. I'm even in the process of watching the old seasons on Netflix...

zzzzzzzzz..... * snores * ....zzzzzzzzzzz

remember the halcyon days of legend and lore when captain jack used to have more than 3 minutes of screentime per episode? remember when torchwood had aliens and heterosexual sex (the 2nd episode featured an alien that needed to fuck in order to survive! that club scene in the beginning was hott (please denote the two Ts on "hott" as there is a scale of hotttness that is derived from how many Ts you add to the end of the word "hot") and yeah, remember when torchwood was pretty good??? it feels like a long time ago, IMHO.

i'll watch it because it's torchwood, but like, this isn't my grandfather's torchwood... hell it's not even my 2-yr-older-brother's torchwood... this is... something else.

plus they've even gone and sheathed eve myles' slightly pudgy but definitely hot rack, which is a detriment in my book.

SO IT'S NOT PHI-CORP, IT'S SOMETHING ELSE. I'VE HAD A SLIGHT TWINGE THAT YOU'RE SLYLY REFERENCING THE ILLUMINATI WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE "FAMILIES" AND THE "BLOODLINES" BUT LIKE, GET ON WITH IT ALREADY YOU FUCKING SODS!!!

well, jack was originally introduced as omnisexual... he macked the shit out of rose (to the doctor >> "she was hanging from a barrage balloon during the london blitz and i had an invisible spaceship.... you're right, i had no chance!" =) and then started dropping hints that he was gay... then once he got to torchwood he significantly gayed it up with ianto, and then james marsters shows up and he was manhole-on-halsted bathroom levels of gay... but then in children of earth they gave him grandkids so it's like "yeah he still rocks the poon here and there"

pretty much, i think RTD in his heart of hearts wanted to make jack be a gay superhero, but he used the omnisexual thing as a means to gradually ratchet up the gayness as to not just thrust a gay character upon the doctor who fanbase so early in its much-ballyhooed return. these days he's gayer than rosie o'donnell's dildo, so i think that "evolution" from "omnisexuality" was meant to be from day one. some doctor who fans call it "the gay agenda"

Oddly enough (I guess) I'm reall diggin the current season but find the first few episodes of the first season less than good. Maybe it's my fault for watching it out of order but I'm pretty sure I would not be watching the new episodes if I would have seen the show when it first started...

Yeah, I'm getting the episodes out of order, too, for the current season.

:-) I see one of the Slitheens in episode 2. Hopefully they don't do fart jokes.

Got enough of the episodes so I can watch them in order. Gwen with a bazooka is good stuff. I cannot imagine a louder/more obnoxious guy than the CIA guy. And the kid being nonplussed while Gwen shoots at the helicopter is odd.

Ace? I'm thinking you'll decide "no." But she becomes an interesting character, as the Doctor starts teaching her stuff.

What happened to episode 105? It's not listed On Demand. That's the way I've been following it. I really don't want to watch 106 without know what happened.

if only there was a bay where baseball players from pittsburgh could block a few peers and find the answer to all their prayers.

naw, it's fun for you it's for me let's all scream FUCK XFINITY!@#!@$@#

btw what is xfinity? ex-infinity? crossing out infiunity? has comcast declared a categorical end to the concept of infinity, thus damning us to exist in their omnipresent media/internet world of finite ends? is this a precursor to net neutrality being kicked out in favor of net-ownitality and new bandwith pricing that kills 75% of free internte porn viewing and causes some real fucking riots that make those brits go "well we're a proper lot of mugs over here ain't we?"

incidentally, while i've kind of shit on this series thus far, i still like it way more than the last episode of doctor who, a good man goes to war. that episode made me want to puke, throw things, and seriously go track down alex kington and smack her bitch face real hard.

The first scene where Rory invades the Cybermen ship and the Doctor blows up shit was great. I should've stopped watching there.

ok, fuck regurgitating the doctor who thread i'll do this here... that last episode really pissed me off.

first of all, when the doctor showed up and the heroic music started playing and there were cuts to various people going SQUEEEEEEE all OMFG HE'S HERE it's like where's CM punk's living colour cult of personality entrance music playing?! for fuck's sake man, i've preached about http://beasthouse-lm2.blogspot.com --- dig through that and find when he talks about stephen moffat's fetishization of the doctor and it's so dead on with this episode. also, the sidebar to the right is worth the price of admission alone.

anyways, so that kills me. and yeah whatever decent episode, but when river shows up at the end.. that YESSSSS shit. the doctor going smooch smooch... man, that's when i seriously wanted to demolish my television. what the fuck is that shit?!!

see, once i had a spirited conversation with a queen's subject @ the bennigan's by the art institute (one of the 2 or 3 bennigan's left in existence as independent spots, right?) and we were talking about christopher eccleston versus david tennant.

i said hands down christopher eccleston is the man, it's not even close. throughout his series with rose it was repeatedly conveyed that he was vastly superior to her so while he did stick up for his ability to mack the shit out of rose when captain jack showed up with his invisible spaceship, still, he was letting jack know that he could get all up in that ex-popstar anytime he damn well pleased, but that motherfucker's a LORD OF TIME and you know ain't no party like a time lord party cuz a time lord party is not subject to the temporal laws that govern time and space and therefore it technically can never stop or even end for that matter. HE'S A MOTHERFUCKING LORD OF TIME AND THIS IS SOME LITTLE CHAV FROM LONDON!!! CASE CLOSED.

he tells me that christopher eccleston is a burrito because he didn't hit that, and tennant is hitting that that that's why he loves her so much.

seriously, if you find something gay about christopher eccleston's 9th doctor, i've just found something gay about you.

see like, tennant shows up and turns all emo in his "geek-chic" clothing and WAAAHHHH I CAN SAMPLE THE DARK MEAT BUT ALLS I WANT IS ROSE WAAAHHH BOOOOHOOO.

it's like, fuck you have some dignity you know?! the doctor always transcended relationships with his assistants/companions cuz he's the fucking man and they're just there. i mean seriously, even colin baker prolly only fucked peri brown out of spite and boredom, let's be real real foreal here.

so that whole thing changed with tennant/rose, and now we've got this convoluted-as-all-fuck river song bitch showing up and when i saw the smoochies it's like?!!? comeon. it was easy to go "nigga you gay" when he turned down karen gillan, but like, still, there was at least a vibe of "i'm above and beyond this shit" --- now this river song love of the life thing, yargh. i hear episode 13 is called "the wedding" --- it better go to 26/06/2010 as opposed to some super convoluted shit with doctor and a non-kingston river/melody... please don't do me like that moffat, YOU DON'T NEED YOUR OWN ROSE! JUST GIVE ME YOUR OWN THING.

and now i really want amy pond and rory to go away... and that's sad cuz like, i'm in the worst shape of my life and all but if karen gillan had nothing to do for the next 4 hours and wanted to hang out seriously the bitch would alternatively want to marry me and fix my life so i could be her fucking dream husband (it's been tried twice before and it's never worked) i swear to god, but like, for the good of the franchise... restore some honor and dignity to one of the greatest characters in the history of human television and please please please get rid of the fucking pond family and river and all that. seriously, give me some spunky slightly thick big-tittied chick from the future who doesn't have emotional baggage and some boyfriend so the doctor can give us sly winks that he nailed that shit like the nailgun in quake between episodes, kind of like eccleston indicated he COULD do, man...

so please, for the love of god... completely new companions next year, no pre-river-song "melody pond" shit with the black girl. please oh god no i dont want family drama and love stories on doctor who, i want brilliant shit with aliens and badass condescending pseudojargon dropped on the half-wits as the doctor and thusly timelords are a metaphor for illuminated motherfuckers who transcend that of the ordinary human being. i could relate to that...

matt smith's doctor has so much potential IMHO, cuz even tho he's using his 26yearoldedness nad looks to be this squeeeeee kissy kissy doctor, you get the idea that he could play the shit out of the character and easily be better than tennant, and prolly rank up in the top ~4-5 of all time behind baker eccleston and pertwee..... i mean, jesus. comeon.

anyways, my bad to do this rant here but like, i had to say it. it had to be done. end of line.

some people on gallifreybase.com love to bring up Russell T Davies' (RTD) "gay agenda" with doctor who and torchwood. if you didn't know, Russell T Davies is gay and is the guy who brought us "Queer as Folk" (the original british one, not necessarily the showtime series, altho i think he was an exec/producer technically) so with that in mind there is a % of the fanbase that speaks of the "gay agenda" to make homosexuality as awesome and fantastic and fabulous as it could possibly be.

note in all of the series of doctor who and i'd say 90-95% of the time in torchwood homosexual characters are made out to be excellently virtuous good quality persecuted people. i think james marsters' "Captain John Hart" remains the only avowed homosexual that ended up being an antagonist, however, in the end you found out that he was forced to do what he did because shudder to think that in this day and age massmedia would be capable of making homosexuality look bad by having one as a villain.

SPOILERIFFIC CONTENT LURKS BELOW. READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

in this case, wow, so it sure looks like "the miracle" is going to be dramatic baggage holding out for ~80+ years thanks to a jilted ex lover? wow... and i thought river song was contrived! at least her torrid love affair was allowed to play out over the course of a few years and a handful of episodes, whereas here in episode 7/10 we're introduced to the "ultimate" jilted ex-lover who seems to want jack so bad he's willing to change the whole damn planet to do it? no way... this is gonna be a captain john hart type situation where his hand was forced and he was a guinea pig for immortality experiments thanks to those three shady "families" who we FINALLY saw, and i reckon that in the end his soul will be absolved thanks to an exposure of his hand being forced in doing this whole thing.

yeah, i don't think there's any way that the big bad for this series is gonna end up being a gay guy who used to romp around the bedroom with jack.... speaking of, holy shit i facepalmed when that went down... i guess on i can't bitch because in this day and age homosexuality is put out there not just to be tolerated, moreover loved and accepted and cherished lest you desire formal bigot status... and on average if we're going to operate with 500% equal and everything, there's a lot more hetero titties on the screen than gay ass, but still, it's just kind of !!!! to see it actually happen you know?

earlier in the thread i touched on that i believe that jack started off as "omnisexual" in order to ease the viewers/fanbase into accepting a full-on FABULOUTH!!!! </lisp> gay superhero, and if it isn't flagrantly obvious that jack is 100% gay at this juncture (not to mention the actor who portrays him is gay... and evidently is a big fan of exposing himself to others on-set. christopher eccleston didn't like that and methinks it was part of the reason that he got the fuck out of dodge after 1 series) and yeah.

but who cares? we finally got to see an alien, although it had absolutely nothing to do with the plot... and we finally got to see jack, although he was doing his best softcore gay pornstar imitation with a totally insipid and insta-contrived(tm: just add water) love interest that sure seems to be in the driver's seat for the motive/s behind the miracle. and for a second consecutive episode oswald and jilly were NOWHERE TO BE SEEN! we heard a 2ndhand radio/tv announcemnet that he's for categorization but that's about it.

so long story short (the antithesis of me) this show has me worried now, which i reckon is an upgrade from the 97% apathy i grew to have for it by episode 3 or 4, so at least my interest is piqued... even tho it's only to see just how potentially bad contrived and facepalm-worthy this whole thing can end up being.

i also have no idea how this show is going to win over american audiences to the point where another series would be commissioned.... maybe it's doing well ratings-wise in britain so the BBC could do another one, however, changing the show from an overt man vs aliens with a twinge of doctor who setup into whatever you wanna call this show likely has done a disservice to a solid % of the original fanbase and i just can't really see people in america coming across this and being like "whoa this is awesome! why haven't i seen this show b4?!?!" cuz even if you came in with no memories of the original stuff and this was your intro to the show, is there anything here that really stands out as excellent television?

I haven't watched episode 7, and have no feel whatsoever for what the Firefly-watching demographic wants to see. Out of my ken. Maybe a bunch of macho gays is the flavor of the day.

As for RTD and any agenda, anyone whose seen episodes with Ianto should know what direction he's going in. And Starz? If they've seen RTDs work, then they had to know what they were getting.

I thought the last episode was just ok. I was glad that it seems they are finally ready to get into the cause of the miracle instead of just running around and doing nothing like they've done for the last 6 episodes. Hopefully there are some actual answers this Friday.

My guess. Harkness' ex is super old. Hopefully they don't try to bang ort anything...

He would be well over 100, as he looked to be at least 25 in 1927.

I bet the triumvirate injected him with some fairy dust shortly after they lost track of "Blowjob Jack" in the Late '20's, and he looks about the same age as we last saw him.

I'm just hoping that the miracle isn't some sort of revenge thing. That would completely suck and may just cause me to stop watching the current season and the old ones I'm following on Netflix. It has to be bigger than that. That can be one of the reasons, but it can't be the only one.

You make everyone on earth immortal just so you can kill earths only previous mortal? Don't do it...

That's an obvious "no."

But if you found such a device that can effect this, would you use it? And if so to what detriment?

WARNING SPOILERS BE A-LURKIN'

Even though we're being dragged through the mud to another episode, I'm relatively ecstatic that SOMETHING FINALLY HAPPENED!!!! WOOO!!! It's only taken us ~8 episodes to get to the point where Jack's impending mortality came into play (as a rule of thumb, you can't turn the immortal main character of a series mortal and not have at least one cliffhanger where his newfound mortality becomes a temporarily-major issue) and now we've got... action! We've got exploding Newmans, enough budget to feature Bill Pullman again, Jilly joining the evil empire, Q hamming it up (and holy crap did John de Lancie go all out easter ham on this episode) and.... [drum roll] MORPHIC FIELD GENERATORS!!!@ WOO!

It's almost too little too late though.... The first few episodes featured all kinds of action and crazy stuff... remember the asian chick from dollhouse running backwards with a snapped neck trying to pursue the torchwood team? there was a conspiracy to kill the torchwood team that seemed to take 5-6 episodes off, and things were developing so quick it looked like the series had potential! Well I'm happy to say that we've got action and intrigue back, so maybe if we get some aliens (the family dude saying he was taking Jilly "far far away" gives me hope) or at least we get some fast-paced action oriented jack-as-a-superhero stuff... although he DOES have to deal with his obligatory heroic wound just like any good action movie hero does.

so who's with me on this? sorry for the incoherent message but i'm watching my beloved chicago bears and real-time-pausing the new doctor who episode and flipping in between them so i'm a bit tied up, but like, i just had to start a thread and be all WOOO OH MY GOD YES SOMETHING HAPPENED THIS EPISODE OH MY GOD STUFF HAPPENED THAT MAKES ME WANT TO WATCH THIS AGAIN!!!@$#

also, i want to point out that i was correct in saying that there was no way in hades that RTD would allow a gay ex-lover of jack's to be the big bad.... call it the gay agenda or whatever you want, but i'd be willing to bet that there will never be an evil homosexual/homophile in the doctor who universe! I just knew it was going to be the evil "families" that did all of this, and hey, props to RTD for making sure that at least one of the three most powerful and influential evil families in the last 100 years is a black family.... we don't want any black kids in the audience to think that they can't grow up and spearhead an evil empire that brings about an evil paradigm shift for the future of humanity, now do we?!!?

all in all, a proper corker of an episode at least as far as this nu-torchwood goes, so i'll give it a solid 7 and hope that STUFF CONTINUES TO HAPPEN FOR THE NEXT TWO EPISODES!!!! i nearly threw something at my tv set when we had to waste 5 minutes to find out that esther's sister is salty and gwen's mom is a firebrand. yawwwwn. back to the world-altering superconspiracy please!

I finally caught up-to-date on this one. I thought it started pretty slow, too much pharmaceutical company, too much Rex, too much Vera staring at computer screens in committee meetings.

But, I've recently committed myself to going from being a fat-ass to being moderately fat so I have been watching the back episodes while I work out and I think it has gotten better. And, while I don't watch it specifically for the gay man-on-man sex, I have to admit these past few episodes have been the best so far.

And, there's nothing like working-out and having a good sweat going while you are watching two naked guys getting it on for about 10 minutes - no innuendo. That doesn't feel weird at all. I was just happy my wife didn't walk in. In addition, Torchwood was on the TV.

In any case, the point is when they get the focus back on Jack, the show works better than it does when Vera and Rex are running around with video cameras. In all, not too bad.
