Chuck LaMar resigned as the Asst. GM of the Philadelphia today. Barry Rozner is making noise this could be the Cubs guy.

BarryRozner Barry Rozner
Scouting director Tim Wilken was special assistant to GM Chuck LaMar in TB for three years.

As AGM, Player Development & Scouting, LaMar worked closely with Ryne Sandberg, who took his team to the playoffs, which start tomorrow.

Philly Asst GM Chuck LaMar abruptly resigns a month before playoffs. He's a former GM, comes from winner. Sounds like a Tom Ricketts guy.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. My knowledge of LaMar is the awful early Rays days. We'll see. It's all rumor at this point.

Positive:
Quote:
In 1991, LaMar moved to the Atlanta Braves and served as director of player development and scouting (through 1993), with the team winning its division in both seasons. He then served as assistant general manager and director of player personnel (1994-95), working with General manager John Schuerholz during one of the most successful periods in Braves' history, as the club won the 1995 World Series.

Bad, very bad:
Quote:
LaMar's tenure was characterized by moves such as trading Bobby Abreu and Dmitri Young while receiving Kevin Stocker and Mike Kelly in return. Those trades proved to be failures, as Abreu and Young went on to have successful careers. He was also responsible for signing Juan Guzmán, Wilson Alvarez, Wade Boggs, Roberto Hernández, and trading for Fred McGriff.

Could be a fit. I like the Sandberg angle.

Ricketts fucked it up when he signed Fleita.

It will be a Quade-like guy who is desperate for a GM job and will be a yes man.

Hard to change the culture when you replace 1 guy in the front office.

What a fucking dumb ass the new owner is.

I do not know what to think of this.

The guy has had plenty of time to learn from his past mistakes and see how a first class organization runs itself. Philly did a good job of developing young players that could either play for them or be trade pieces to acquire top level talent.

I could care less that he might be a bridge to Sandberg. The Cubs could have had him already if they wanted him. While I wouldn't have a problem with him coming back I certainly don't want to select the GM based on his relationship with him. I'm fairly certain any GM could offer him the job and he would take it.

Ricketts really fucked this up because he is going to have to explain just why he had to make all of these front office decisions before hiring a GM making him look like an idiot.....and if he says he ran it by him first he is going to lose some draft picks and money for blantent tampering.

People thought Cuban would be a bad owner because his antics that some may call unprofessional. I would much rather have a little fire and passion out of an owner than one that has his head placed squarely up his ass like Ricketts.
