They were close but so far away 2 times in the last 5 years. Could they have done it?

Lovie Smith is a stubborn man. In the SB,Manning was average. The Bears gift wrapped it for him. Having Rex throw in the rain was insane!
Last year against the Packers, (I'm still sick about it,BTW) should never occurred in the first place. Lovie thought it was a good idea to play dead against the Pack in game 16.

Yes they could have

They were down 5 with the ball in the 4th quarter against the Colts. They were down a touchdown with the ball against the packers.

They were one fluke play away from leading or tying those games.

The better question is "if the Bears qb's didn't have really bad games in those two games could they have won 2 SBs?"

They should have beaten the Colts and they should have beaten the Packers in week 17 last year.

If they made last year's SB, I don't think they would have beaten the Steelers.

I think it's cute how you try to get my attention by making your little disparaging remarks. I'd make me sad if you weren't so dredfully average.

It was not controversial more meatballish. I was watching the game thinking maybe the Bears could have been hosting last night.

dont let the fact that the Colts were good and that the Packers were good get in the way of your "should haves".

They were both better teams...but both games were winnable late in the 4th for the Bears.

If they had, the five year stretch would have represented the absolute nadir of modern pro (NFL) football. Those two teams would have then been the absolute worst champs ever...maybe excepting the Jets.

Both of those teams would have had a better resume than the Packers did last year.

They played that game to win. They didn't lay down.

i was roughly ~6-12 years old during the ass-end of the ditka regime... is it true that he really fucked up when he decided to gaga over doug flutie, dividing the lockerroom and leading to mcmahon leaving? i seem to remember ditka's handling of doug flutie being some sort of a problem for the late 80s beloved.

oh yeah, and being 30 years old and all, i was raised that i should blame the lack of a repeat title in '86 on forrest gregg and that one dude on the packers who bodyslammed mcmahon after a play was over, thus ending his season and consequently the bears' season.

he lost the locker room for a number of reasons: buddy/ditka feud, embracing spare bears, flutie

ditka could no longer control his Coaaaaaaaach personality...it was no longer a character but his dominant personality...I think everyone sensed the change and viewed ditka as a fraud...it was time to move on
