With Ginger Zee headed for New York to join ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5 has added two new full-time meteorologists to its weather staff.

Cheryl Scott of NBC affiliate WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, will be replacing Zee as weekend meteorologist, while Alicia Roman of CBS affiliate WISH-TV in Indianapolis will serve as primary meteorologist for NBC 5’s noon weekday newscast, which debuted Monday. Scott starts September 19, and Roman starts September 27.

“The additions of Cheryl and Alicia will allow us to expand our coverage during breaking weather situations and focus even more on preparing and informing our viewers,” Frank Whittaker, station manager and vice president of news at NBC 5, said in a statement Monday.

As first reported here last month, Zee is close to signing on for the long-vacant weather slot on GMA Weekend. Although no announcement has been made, insiders said she is expected to join the show sometime in November. Zee’s last appearance on NBC 5 will be October 9 during coverage of the Chicago Marathon.

Zee, who was named after the Ginger character on Gilligan’s Island, grew up in western Michigan and worked at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids before joining NBC 5 as weekend meteorologist in 2006.

Scott, a 2007 graduate of Brown University, previously worked at WSEE-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, before joining WBIR as weekend meteorologist in 2009. She began as an intern at NBC-owned WCAU-TV in Philadelphia.

Roman, a 2003 graduate of Penn State University, worked at WHIZ-TV in Zanesville, Ohio, and WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, before joining WISH in 2008.

Both Scott and Roman received their weather training through Mississippi State University.

Their hiring boosts NBC 5’s weather staff to five, including Brant Miller, Andy Avalos and Pete Sack. “We are committed to providing our viewers across all platforms the most comprehensive weather coverage in Chicago,” Larry Wert, president Central and Western Region, NBC Owned Television Stations, and president and general manager of NBC 5, said in a statement.

Believe it or not, with Alicia & Cheryl's hirings at WMAQ, the NBC Universal-owned station will have as many meteorologists as their channel number, 5. That includes Chief Meteorologist and ex-deejay Brant Miller, morning meteorologist & pancake guy Andy Avalos and Pete Sack, who had been sharing the weekend duties with Ginger. Not sure how long that's going to last...

Are you referring to Megan Glaros? She's the one that does the weather on CBS2's dawn patrol newscast and the one at 11a weekdays. The only other female meteorologist at CBS2 that I'm aware of is ex-CLTVer Mary Kay Kleist. She might have filled in for lead meteorologist Steve Baskerville when you watched...

Curious, I don't make this stuff up. Pete Sack frequently subs for Ginger Zee, as well as Andy Avalos on NBC5's weather front. Dick Johnson actually used to anchor the NBC5 morning news a few years ago, long before the Jimmy Fallon-looking Rob Elgas & America Ferrera-looking Zoraida Sambolin took over the newscast at Studio 5. Johnson now anchors the Sunday night NBC5 News before the train wreck that is "Sports Sunday". Those are their real names, Curious...Pete Sack & Dick Johnson.
