Should have read "The Bears will make it to the Super Bowl in spite of Rex Grossman's leadership"

#6 would get you Laron Landry or Amobi Okeye. Okeye was built to play in Lovie's system and might very well end up being better than Tommie Harris. Imagine what you could do with those two guys playing DT for your team. Remember how good the Bears D was in the first 1/3 of the season when Harris was playing out of his mind. Multiply that by 2.

Don't you think we're solid at DL this coming year already?

I do, but in my opinion the D players available in that area of the draft are FAR better than the O players (unless the Bears draft Adrian Peterson). I think both Landry and Okeye are Pro Bowl candidates. I cannot say the same thing for Levi Brown or any of the receivers not named Johnson. Olsen would be a huge stretch.

If the Bears make this trade I think it will result in one of two things:

1) They will trade out of it for more picks or

2) They will reach an agreement with a guy who would have been drafted lower like they did with Mark Carrier several years ago.

If they end up with the 6, I’d probably sit tight and pray to sweet Jesus that Peterson and Quinn both go early. If either Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas start slipping to the 4-5 range, then you have to seriously consider moving up to get one of them. Neither will be there at 6, and moving all the way up to 2 would cost a fortune.

If that can’t be done, I’d try to move down into the mid teens and draft Paul Posluszny, Greg Olsen, or Zach Miller. You’d get a playmaker at a position of need, pay a fair price (as opposed to #6 money), and likely pick up another 2nd round pick in the process.

Here is an unlikely idea whose results I would love. Make the Redskins trade. Trade Cedric Benson to the Browns for a second rounder. Draft Adrian Peterson with the #6 pick, Joe Staley with the Brown pick and Zach Miller with the #37.

I have a very hard time seeing either of the top 2 TE’s lasting beyond the mid 20’s. They both grade out as first round talents, and the dropoff is pretty severe after Olsen & Miller.

I agree but I have not seen a post combine analysis that has Miller in the first round.

JA has a history of drafting for quantity over quality. Aside from Calvin Johnson, there are no instant impact/can't miss offensive players in the draft. Unless there is footage of Johnson with a goat or a crack pipe, he will definitely go no lower than 4.

The Bears should not make this deal unless they can squeeze a little more out of the Redskins. Perhaps, flipping third round spots or getting their third round pick as well.

I would shoot for a bit more as well (perhaps giving the 37 instead of the 31), but if this is the worst case scenario, then I am more than happy with it. Moving from 31 to 6 is quite a jump. There’s more value there than there is with 6 games from Lance Briggs. Looking at it from the other side, I would probably be annoyed if I were a Redskins fan. They’re going to throw a boatload of money at him, plus give up a top 10 pick in the process. I would rather my team sign another LB and keep the pick outright. Hard to complain from the Bears’ perspective.

I’m seeing him listed at the top of rd 2 in lots of mocks as well. I don’t buy it. They’ll both be gone in rd 1. Also, FYI, SportingNews (who has pretty solid draft coverage) has him going #25 to the Jets.

If you guys are draft crazy, here is a pretty good site -

http://www.footballsfuture.com/

keeps up to date with workouts and pro days, links to videos, lots of good stuff.

I've seen Miller all over from mid-late 1st to early 2nd. I suspect he'd be gone before 31. I'd take Olsen or Miller.

I don't think the #6 spot gives them a chance at Johnson so I'd be in favor of a trade, then seeing Angelo trade out of that again to get 2 other picks, trying to get 3 of the top 40 slots to fill TE, WR, and OL in whatever order makes sense based on the board.

Too many amateur "pants around the ankle" mocks there, Doc.

Not so much for the mock drafts. Those are all usually garbage. I'd make another "mock-tease" joke but my MJH one last week didn't fly.

But, I do like the news updates on what guys are doing in their pro days. The main sites generally make you pay for any kind of info so I have a hard time finding sites with good info. I'm always up for recommendations though if you guys have better sites.

I pay the fees for both ESPN Insider and the SportingNews War Room, so honestly I don’t bother much with the small independent sites. I search Google news for the rest.

Out of principal I don't like to pay ESPN or TSN for that kind of "insider" info when I know I can probably find it on the web somewhere.

However, I do pay TSN for their Fantasy source package, so who am I crappin'? I'm a hypocrite.

Pay for that? Why not just use http://www.prosportsdaily.com/index.html ? It's free and basically the same info.

There’s more to it than just a rumor mill. Besides, ESPN gives you a free subscription to the magazine and SportingNews throws in extra crap as well.

Moreover, it’s not this time of year that I get my money’s worth. It’s several months before the draft when the “free” sources aren’t dealing with the subject matter. I follow the NFL/NBA drafts year-round. To me, it’s worth the $5 a month given the amount of articles I read on a daily basis.

Honestly, the issue of him playing 6 games or 16 games is not the major factor for me. It's clear he's gone after this season. If you can get a 1st round pick now, hasta la bye-bye. As BB King once said, "it was fun while it was fun."

He's not gone after this season. The Bears will franchise him again next year too. Sorry Briggs, you are a Bear for the next 2 years unless the Bears find a trade.

Not sure they will do that with new money owed to Tommie, Tillman, Vasher, Berrian, and possibly Rex as well if he proves worthy.

Jay Glazer is reporting that the Bears have officially declined the Redskins trade offer.
