Hi,
The ads for this movie will have you fooled. It's nothing like you think it would be,not neccesarily a bad thing. This movie is not for everyone. Ryan Gossling stars as a "Designated Driver" for pawn shop heists, breaking & entering type stuff, etc. That is what he is about but not what the movie is about.
He befriends a young mother with a 8 year old kid who lives next door to him in a apt. building. The relationship between them builds at a snails pace as there is hardly any dialogue in the movie.(A lot of scenes of people drinking water from a glass) You think someone is about to say something and there is nothing. This goes on I would say for a good 45 minutes. The shit hits the fan when the young mother's husband gets released from prison. He is forced into a situation where he is forced to rob a pawn shop. Gossling's character offers to help. The movie takes off from there with startling violence every 4 or 5 minutes. People literally start getting splattered. This movie clearly reminds me of last years George Clooney film, "The American". It goes from no action to major mayhem like the "Driver's" souped up Chevy Impala goes 0-60. Great supporting casts include Ron Pearlman (Son's of Anarchy),Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks (the redhead from Mad Men) and in a great role, comic Albert Brooks. Despite how slow it was,I loved it. I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

The violence really is startling. This was a very interesting film. It's one of those that I need to see again to even be sure how I feel about it. At any rate, it was worth my $5, and was much better than the Bears game I watched afterwards.

Hearing good things about this movie. Looking forward to seeing it. Really interested in the Albert Brooks role.
