Pearland police arrested Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Dewayne Camby, along with a another man, after an officer reported finding the two with marijuana in a car.
On Monday at about 12:05 p.m., an officer pulled over a black 2010 Porsche Panamera in the 2000 block of Cullen Drive for an equipment violation, Pearland Police Department spokesperson Lt. Onesimo Lopez said. The officer reported smelling burnt marijuana in the car, then searching the car and finding a small amount of marijuana.
Camby, 37, and Kendal Lance Johnson, 34, were both charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone, because the arrest happened near Dawson High School.
Both were held on $2,000 bond, Lopez said, and Camby has since bonded out. If convicted, each could face up to a year in jail and fines of up to $4,000.
Lopez said Camby has a Pearland address and Johnson is from Connecticut.
Camby's NBA career has included leading the NBA in blocks four different years; being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2007; and serving on two NBA All-Defensive Teams.
Camby, then a Toronto Raptors player, was also arrested on marijuana charges in 1997 in Connecticut.
