Same here. I did see him hit a warning track fly ball today. He may be decent if given a shot full time.

I didn't watch but followed the online boxscore. It was no surprise Quade left Wells in. The guy has no clue how to manage a pitching staff. Hopefully Ricketts doesn't wait to hire a new GM to launch this moron.

So you didn't watch the game - but you think you know how Randy Wells was throwing going into the seventh inning because you followed an online box score?

I saw hime throw to a few hitters and knowing his history, yes, get his ass outta there after 6 so he ends the year on a high note. Pretty simple. But not Quade (and you), leave his ass in to give up two more bombs and to lose. Genius!

Keep Campana and Wood.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE CARDINALS?

You're a Cubs fan, not an anti-Cardinals fan. Yes, it is a rivalry, but who gives a shit? The Cubs aren't in it.

As I said, you care more about the Cardinals losing than developing the players on your own goddamn team.

Wells is not a rookie. He is a 6 inning 5th starter at best.

He is a fast runner. He is not a smart runner though. He has been thrown out for stupid shit all year long. He needs some better coaching.

Wells could get better and he is also better than anyone in the minors so he gets to stay.....for now.

You don't evaluate the talent. The next GM will.

Randy Wells is most likely part of this club's immediate future. Therefore, yes, I'd rather see him in these situations and stress how deep he can go in games rather than "insure" 1 meaningless September victory.

Your logic is totally flawed as Quade has been playing the vets not the young talent. That is part of the reason he needs to go bye bye. My point was and is that Quade can't manage a pitching staff (not to mention the whole team) and his handling of Wells today is more evidence of his incompetency.

Wood is still more than decent as a 7-8th inning guy and is a good mentor for the young guys. Campana is valuable as a 25th man on a roster.

LOL - Wood had a good influence on The Shark and has that cut fastball now. Campana is a good guy to have on a team for defense and base stealing.

I have no problem with Wood being on the team. He is cheap and a decent set up guy who could step in to close if shit went down with Marmol and Marshall.

I was pleasantly surprised too. The talk is they'll put him in the rotation next year.

Think we'll know before noon today that he's gone?

Is today going to be a leaguewide Fire Everybody Day or is it postponed due to the holiday?

I wish it would happen fast, but it won't. Ricketts doesn't move quickly on anything. If something isn't announced (Regarding status of President, Manager, GM) within 48 hours of end of World Series, he is absolutely clueless.

He can't talk to either Friedman or Cashman at the moment. I'm sure a managerial decision won't be made until a decent amount of time after the GM is hired, I should think. Not that that means Quade is staying...but the GM should make the move, not Ricketts.

When has Ricketts waited too long to make any move in your opinion?

I wouldn't even bother waiting for Cashman. As far as Friedman goes I would unofficially contact him or his people and see if it is worth the Cubs while to wait until the Rays are finished to make their hire. If it is obvious he has no interest then get this shit figured out already. Make the hire on a day where it is least disruptive to the playoffs and get started fixing this team.

I find this amusing. You can formulate an opinion even with a small sample size. I think it safe to say that you have on this here board. Team Ricketts has owned the team for two full years now. Look at all of the decisions that have been made inside of the Cubs in that time. Lou, Hendry, Crane, Quade hire, scouting dept. and the like. You can make the argument that not all of these things are directly related to the owner. Maybe so, but an active owner would not allow some of the shenanigans to go on that have to this point. What has he done that would indicate he is going to make any decision rapidly? He has known for some time that he needs a GM, and might even know he needs a new President too. In my opinion, based on a lack of activity in prior decisions, he will not make a decision for some time. I sincerely doubt that another successful owner would conduct business in the same manner.

Even though the sample size is not HUGE, I can still have that opinion. If I am wrong, won't be the first time. What is your opinion, even though you feel the sample size lacks depth?

Ricketts should fire Quade. There's no point in keeping him on the team. Obviously you let the new GM hire the next manager, but there's no point in waiting on Quade. Any GM who would even consider letting Quade keep his job shouldn't even be considered to be the next Cubs GM

Let the new GM make the call. He is going to be in charge of this kind of stuff anyway. What's the rush to fire Quade. The new GM is the way more important decision. Ricketts should be focusing on that.

How much focus does it take to call him into the office and say bye bye? The other 8 hours and 59 minutes today could have been spent on the GM search

But whats the point. Let the new GM do it. It shows that you are letting the new GM control the destiny of the team going forward.

It's not like Quade is going to screw up the Cubs off season by getting hair all over the dugout. He isn't a liabilty again until spring training starts. Plenty of time to fire him between now and then.
