With a GM and probably Manager spot to fill for the Cubs, who is your guy? Who do you want? Who are you absolutely against? What say you CSFMB?

Common GM Candidates:
Brian Cashman
Billy Beane
Ben Cherington
Josh Byrnes
John Coppolella
Rick Hahn
Andrew Friedman
Theo Epstein
Thad Levine

Common Manager:
Sandberg
Brenly
Cora
Dave Martinez
Valentine

For GM, I'd be thrilled with Epstein, Beane or Friedman. Really don't want Rich Hahn. Only realistic option of my top 3 is Beane unless Boston really goes crazy and releases Epstein from his contract.

Not sure which way Tom/New GM will want to go with the manager so this is much harder to speculate. There are a lot of popular first time manager candidates out there, but we'll have a better idea once the GM is hired, unless Ricketts hires the manager first which I wouldn't put past him. Always loved Brenly though.

Epstein, Beane or Friedman would all be fine with me for GM, although I do not expect to get any of them. It will probably end up being that Assist GM from the Phillies that recently resigned.

Manager to me is a no brainer for whoever the GM is and that is Brenly. If it is not Brenly then I would like to see them give Dave Martinez a shot after having sat next to Maddon in Tampa for awhile.

Chuck LaMar(the asst GM in Philly) was about to be fired or demoted, so I really hope it's not him. They won't get a big name either. I'll say Cherington.

What about Anthopoulous from Toronto or his assistant, Tony LaCava?

From the manager list, I'll say it ends up being Sandberg, but I wouldn't mind Davey Martinez.

Friedman-because he has shown a great ability to win in the toughest division in Baseball, with a payroll of less than half of what the Red Sox and Yankees have. The ability to identify and develop young talent is what matters most. That is what ownership has identified as the highest priority of this team.

As for manager....Sandburg makes the most sense to me. He buys management/ownnership a bit of time as he is a fan favorite. Plus, he knows most of the young talent in the organization. Lastly, I think he has done a good job and is deserving of the opportunity. The team is not likely to truely contend next season and in a years time they will get a good idea if he's truely fit for the job. I would offer a 2 year deal-no more. Tell Sandburg it's an opportunity if he wants it. It's not a security blanket-long term deal....it's an opportunity. Prove yourself and a long term deal will be possible.

Please spell my favorite baseball players name correctly.

GM:
Friedman
Cherington
Theo (he is 3rd on the list because while he won 2 rings and made some good moves he also freely spent on some shit with the only difference between Boston and the Cubs being that Boston would erase those bad moves and not put Soriano out for 5 years after they realized he sucked.

Manager:
I am on the fence between Sandberg and Bob. I really like Bob but I need to find out why he fell out of favor in Arizona so soon after winning a ring. Sandberg could be really good but I don't like the fact that he has spent no time on a major league staff. I have no idea how he would manage a major league pitching staff which is something the minors doesn't prepare you for.

Why is getting Epstein or Friedman so unlikely?

Epstein doesn't have to leave his current job which is a pretty sweet job for him and Friedman is from Houston and probably wants to return to Houston where he can run the entire show.

I would be very excite with either of the top two. I want whatever manager my top GM choice wants. From a selfish standpoint, I don't want Johnny Cakes because I want him in the booth. I don't need Regan Sandabug, or whatever we're calling him these days, to get excited for the season.

I know the basic situations. I just thought maybe there was a quote or some bad sign I had missed.

The Red Sox are crazy enough to fire Epstein and Chicago can feel like Houston when you're philthy rich.

Agreed on both points RPB.

I prefer Epstein to Friedman by a narrow margin since Theo has experience working with a big market and big payroll. The reason Friedman doesn't have any of Theo's bad contract history is because Tampa never has the money to even offer one of those out. Every big market GM is going to have a few of those.

Good Points Dan

I would add

Experience dealing with crazed title starved fanbase to Epstein's pros

Thats very unique experience he has.

Both of these guys could also very well tell Ricketts to go fuck himself when he mentions that he would prefer Sandberg be manager and that this Crane Kenney guy is a key part of the team.

The fact that the stadium issues are not figured out.

Theo is going to want a payroll to work with and I am not sure Ricketts is willing to eat some bad money and then spend some more.

I also think Theo is using this to leverage a bigger contract extension with the Sawx.

I think so too. But I'll give Tom some credit for making an effort here at least.

Friedman

Epstein

Hahn

Manager

Sandberg
Alomar Jr.
Martinez
Francona
Brenly

My preference is long term guys in Friedman and Sandberg. Build the farm system, develop a fundamentally sound team that plays hard and plays right and develop an organization that contends year in year out, unllike the Hendry Cubs who either finish 1st or 5th. I can live with Epstein but I don't see where he has the insight to draft the right players and his free agent acquisitions have been boom or bust with to many busts, just like Hendry.

As to managers, Sandberg can grow on the job and be a guy who's there 10+ years and provide the stability needed to let things grow. He will develop a fundamentally sound team, the players will play hard and respect him and the fans won't bite his head off as he has their respect as well. Just seems like a logical fit.

Can we also get Mark Cuban to buy out FanBoy?
