it would probably take a lot to muster any interest from me in this movie. i really hate terminal-illness movies unless it's a true story with some kind of twist. and i realize this is based on the screenwriter's own dealings with cancer...but he survived obviously, so i'm guessing the main character does, too.

see, the thing is...if the guy lives...who cares. if he dies...saw it coming. it's 100% predictable either way because the formula is set up to manipulate you.

interesting there's a scene in the teaser that his friend (seth rogen, currently the most overused comic actor besides paul rudd) where he tells the cancer kid that it's a slam dunk if you tell a girl you have cancer, you'll get laid.

it's pretty much the same message with this movie: you have to like it because it's about a kid with a terminal disease. it's just self-indulgent and uncomfortable. it's like shoving it in your face.

so...maybe if shakes likes it i'll go see it.

Not nearly as compelling as Real Steel.

I just saw this tonight and i thought it was great. To me, nothing in the script felt contrived or manipulated. The acting was superb, especially Gordon-Levitte and I thought it did an outstanding job of conveying the emotions of everybody involved in the situation and showing how various characters(and people) cope with trauma. One of the better movies I've seen recently.

then you should go see it cause I saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was one of the 2 best movies from 2011.

Sounds about right. What was the other one?

Rented this off the TV last Friday and thought it was decent. The girl I saw it with liked it quite a bit
too. I thought that acting was pretty damn good and the story wasn't way over the top or anything.
I was expecting a much different ending but the way it came out worked for me.

I originally had X-Men First class in the top two, but forgot about the King's Speech so let's call it a top 3 as oppposed to a top 2.
