Also, I forgot to include Redman so I bumped Treach off my list.

Naughty By Nature as a group would still be there. Treach solo doesn't belong.

i do like Treach.....the first album is a classic. i just feel they took a sharp downward turn after that with Hip Hop Hooray and all that crap. and yes I know OPP was a gimmicky song too but the whole album is solid. nothing really good on 2nd album on

Love a lot of names on your list but you're going to have to meet me at 3:00 for putting Biggie ahead of Nas.

Personal preference. Dre was my first favorite rapper.

And I like Biggie, 2pac was awesome but some of his stuff got repetitive and too gangsta for the sake of gangsta.

I thought Biggie was pretty thought provoking on Everyday Struggle. I consider that one of THEE classic hip hop tracks of all time.

I dont dislike Jay Z, he's my 17th favorite rapper.

I'll be working on my list later.

And I agree with both Kid and Krazy Ivan on Rakim.

Raekwon will be on my list, RPB. Probably 20-25.

I completely blanked out on the Wu. Raek gets in based on Cuban Linx alone.
Raekwon is in. Erick Sermon is out.

well that goes back to groups....maybe there should be another list of top groups. because i really couldn't single a 'great' rapper out of Pharcyde, Pete & CL, De La, Jungle Brothers, Stetsasonic, Camp Lo, etc....even EPMD neither of them are spectacular on their own but they work great together.

Someone should average out the selections and come up with a master list...

Yes. And we'd have no idea who any of his selections are because they'd all be his friends or some guy he got high with.

kidding, of course...

Reader stopped listening to rap in 1990. I think Chubb Rock was in heavy rotation.

i think rather than muddy the waters by including groups there should just be a second list for groups....and if you still decide on listing individuals from groups on the original list that's up to you

It would be hard for me to put together a list because I usually don't have favorites.

No favorite movie
No favorite musician
No favorite women
No favorite food

It would change day by day depending on how I feel.Bez would not be on my list.

Rakim is the greatest to me because to this day no MC has been able to revolutionize the way MCs flow on the mic like he did. Its like he time traveled to from present day back to the mid 80s with his rhyme style. Until someone changes the game the way he did he's gonna stay atop my list

As to why he fell off. He really didnt. Everyone just caught up by the early to mid 90s and he really didnt evolve. Didn't help that he disappeared for a while too.
Its kinda like the Wu. They were groundbreaking back in the 90s but peaked and never evolved with anything new as far as sounds go. They are at the same level now as they were in the mid 90s...everyone has since surpassed them as far as skill goes
