Mac taking shots at Zambrano for being wild. He should worry about the impressive preformance by his team today. Maybe on Wednesday, someone will tell the Sox pitcher that BP ends an hour before the game.

Schmitty,
are you saying that big Z wasn't wild, or that Mac's not allowed to talk about it?

he was taking shots at zambrano yelling at the ump, and throwing yet another one of his trademark tantrums thats most of us outgrow at some point during preschool...

Z hit a guy, and walked a bunch...so yeah, why shouldnt he get a wide strike zone!!

White Sox fans used to complain about too much Cubs talk, now Cubs fans are complaining about Cubs talk?

Zambrano is a head case and a chicago radio show decided to talk about it, what a shock.

I agree, he was wild, but i've come to expect that on Opening Day from him. He gets to pumped up, and doesn't find his control. His 2nd start will be alot better.

if this is really the case, he should start game 2 or 3. not game #1.

Don't be a little bitch schmitty. If the Cubs win a game and they spend 5 minutes on the Sox you'll probably be the first to come here and bitch about that too.

A sports radio host in Chicago shouldn't criticize the Cubs because Contreras was worse, love that argument.

Boo Friggin Hoo! I am a Cubs fan and I would rip on Big Z if I was on the air. He wants 80+MIL!, He is under the microscope that he created by demanding a contract. Put up or shut up.

If he can't control his emotions then I don't want him on the Cubs. He's nothing more then a nice fantasy player who puts up decent numbers. But if he can't control himself and focus for big games then he will never be worth that huge contract.

oh jeez. opening day and it has started already. We need some simple rules around here. Sox fans should talk only about sox issues. Cubs fans should talk only about Cubs issues. This whole Cubs-Sox fan "your shit stinks worse than mine" got old when you guys were 8 years old. Leave it for the 8 year olds.

But fan rules don't apply to talk show hosts. They ought to be able to give their thoughts about either team. It's their freaking job.

I agree with everyone here. I do think Z was taking to much of the blame. Like Jurko was saying the bats sucked today. Hopefully Murton makes some adjustments, or Lou will be going to Floyd quickly.

This is funny. You two really think the same rules apply to every occupation? Update for you: they don't. Different voactions require different etiquettes and different approaches to how challenges are managed.

Zambrano's tantrums often have resulted in his demonstrating an inability to maintain his focus and subsequently fall apart.

In talk radio, tantrums often result in renewing and creating interest, generating publicity, effecting change with the neckties, proving the "mouth" is willing to debate - spiritedly, colorfully, pointedledy - issues that evoke emotions from all participants, including the audience.

And don't think for a second broadcast execs don't relish the suspensions because of the free pub it gets the station.... plus they get to feel more "big time" when guys like Robert Feder and Teddy Greenstein call 'em for a quote.

Baseball season in this town produces high levels of stupidity. Because of the "my team is better than your team," "don't criticize my team, worry about your own team," etc., etc., I would favor a 96-game baseball season. Finish it before the NFL kicks or shortly thereafter. That would work for me.

So are you saying those "arguments" that caused suspensions are just a stunt? If so, great for you.

Otherwise, this sounds like justification for acting juvenile. I think you can prove that you are spirited, colorful, and pointed without resorting to physical altercations.

I'm not trying to bust your balls, Mac - but I think you guys are better than that.

but i've never had a physical altercation. i shoved harry once when he was in my kitchen and wouldn't get out of my face. ask jurko about it... he even yelled at harry to start the show and get to his fucking station in the studio. if you call that guilty, than that's what i am.

Neither Mac's nor Z's tantrums are stunts. But you could make the argument that (even in Zambrano's case) the end can justify the means.

WMVP got a lot of attention from last year's bru-ha-ha. I've also see Zambrano pitch his best baseball following some of his on-field meltdowns.

Rereading my first email - it came off as harsher than I meant it to.

I'm just not sure if sports radio is a forum for unbridled emotion as a key ingredient for success. If it was, I would think there would be more tantrum/suspensions.

I think you can demonstrate those other things that Mac described without being Zambrano-like at times. But, I'm no expert on the industry.

It also seemed that saying it "generates interest" implies there is some awareness to what you are doing, making it staged to some degree. And if it isn't - then it just sounds like justification.

It's actually neither. To quote every manager, player, coach from any pro, college or high school team . . . ."It is what it is."

Then I stand corrected. I apologize.

Does this mean I can't believe everything I read on the internet?

Well, I've wasted the last couple years of my life.

How did no one comment on this quote? I'd love to know what Harry was after that made Mac shove him. I suspect it had an Allen Brothers emblem on it.

This would be considered a physical alteration in my work place. Not that I care. I would have loved to seen in for that matter.

Ok, so it is not ok to get upset in baseball because the umpire has a tight strike zone, but its ok in radio to get into a shoving match because your personal punching bag finally had enough of your high school behavior. Thanks for clearing that up Mac.

Big fan Mac, but you talk out of both ends of your mouth on a weekly basis.

its one thing if you're throwing through teacups and still not getting calls, but zambrano was all over the place yesterday-- 5 walks and 1 hit batsmen in 5 innings. why should he get a wide strike zone when he's throwing like that?
