When FOX Sports starts its coverage of the American League Championship Series Saturday night, Joe Buck, the bow-tie wearing Ken Rosenthal, Chris Rose, Eric Karros and the White Sox' own Anthony John Pierzynski will be part of the network's "MLB on FOX" crew. Tim McCarver will be conspicously absent this weekend.

McCarver, a veteran of 21 consecutive postseasons as an analyst, will miss the first 2 games of the "MLB on FOX's" coverage of the ALCS due to a minor heart procedure he will undergo Thursday morning. Although Tim is expected to return early next week for Game 3 of the ALCS, someone who is no stranger to October baseball and has 2 World Series rings on his resume will sit in for the veteran analyst starting Saturday night.

Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona will sit in as guest analyst in the booth for FOX's exclusive call of the first 2 games. A winner of 2 World Series with the Red Sox in 2004 & 2007, Francona just last week stepped down after 8 seasons managing Boston, guiding those Sox to 5 playoff trips along the way.

I remember that. When CBS Sports had the MLB package, circa 1990 or so, Tim McCarver was very critical of Deion Sanders' committment during a game broadcast. I remember Sanders was a 2-sport player at the time McCarver criticized, and it was a Sunday where Deion played football with the Falcons and then jetted back to Atlanta to play a NLCS game for the Braves that night. Needless to say, Deion was none too happy of Tim's criticism and that photo in the Braves' locker room spoke for itself.
