the list of names further shows how the Cubs end many guys' careers...the Cubs are very often the last stop of big-leaguers....take a look at these names left in the playoffs:

Ryan Theriot (the best player on this list, and who I love)
Corey Patterson
Jerry Hairston
Casey McGehee
Latroy Hawkins
Ross Gload

thats not much to speak of folks, although it is impressive how some of those dummies have lasted many years after their Cubdom

Now add to that list the guys who were eliminated or cut:
Aaron Heilman (cut in July)
Fuld
Juan Cruz
Farnsworth

thats a terribly unimpressive list of names...
even if u go around the entire league and look at ex-Cubs, there arent that many, and the ones that remain suck

its amazing how we have had no imprint on the rest of the league as far as our players go

When was Ross Gload ever on the Cubs??? he was on the White Sox and had a big Homer in the World series....but I don't recall him ever playing for the Cubs.

edit-I looked it up and he had all of 31 (forgettable) at bats in the 2000 season before he was claimed off waivers following that season.

No big Ross Gload homer in the World Series either...probably thinking of Geoff Blum.

Ross Gload was not on the 2005 playoff roster.

Ross Gload hit a grand slam in the first inning of a Cub Sox for game that was called foul but was really fair if I recall.

Theriot is the perfect brand of douchebag to appeal to the Cardinals fans.

Which is the same reason he was over loved by so many Cubs fans.

I didn't mind him when he first came up but once he got comfortable in the big leagues the douchebag in him came to fruition.

he came up with the Cubs...he actually looked good too and we threw him out...another Brooks Kieschnick

who knew he would last over 10 years, never being an everyday player...good for him

Theriot never got comfortable...he's always been tough and gritty...he was just working under a bully unfortunately

Larussa loves him, and that says a lot...i said after he got traded last year that he would make the perfect Cardinal and even be a Yankee someday...sure enough I was right about the first part

That explains why I couldn't remember him on the Cubs...Geoff Blum never was! But I don't remember Gload being a Cub either. Who the hell would lament losing either guy?? These are bench players who rarely impact games. To Blum's credit, he took advantage of a rare opportunity in fine fashion and created a World Series moment to remember. But most of the guys on Whistlers list are guys nobody blames the club for cutting loose.
