He's been dead for years. Is he finally going to be buried though?

if this was a hoax, it's odd timing...in that, it could've been done years ago.

From WikiDropIn:

Allen "Al" Davis (July 4, 1929 – April 23, 1994) was an American football executive who served as the principal owner (titled as "president of the general partner" or "managing general partner," depending on the source) of the NFL's Oakland Raiders.

I saw it on facebook first and then ESPN just reported it. He was an innovator, leader and had a great team up into the early 80's. Still they made the SB, was it 6 years ago?

This is bad news for the Bears organization. They are now 1 notch higher up on the worst front office list and 1 notch higher on the list of worst drafting teams.

He was good for the game football but he lost his fastball and never realized it.

He should transition very easily into the undead.

One of the most important guys in football. Sad some people will only know him as the crazy old guy.

Bummer

He lost his fastball over the last 10 years or so, and he may have been Pete Rozelle's arch-nemesis, but there aren't a lot of guys that did more for promoting minority candidates as head coaches and front office guys as well as players in the 60's.

He was great for the game while still lucid.

RIP

When the Raiders are good, the NFL is better, this is a sad day for the NFL. I do wonder how this will impact for the Raiders to move to L.A. or stay in Oakland.

They are also one notch higher on the death chart. Virginia can't be far behind.

Somewhere Marcus Allen smiles.

He shared some thoughts today on whichever of the college football shows he is on right now and he was pretty honest about them not always seeing eye to eye, but regardless he had some good things to say about him

I saw Allen's statement. A class act.

Davis certainly was nowhere near the top of his game the last 10 or so years, but the league owes the guy alot for what he accomplished in helping to make the league what it is today.

And he definately gets an A+ for his racial diversity way before it was fashionable.

You know...I think this has me a little more bummed than just some football executive dying.

When I was a kid (80's/early 90's) it seemed like I knew what I was going to get on football Sunday's. It was me, my dad, and my grandfather sitting in the basement at my grandparent's house, watching the Bears at Noon, and almost always, the Raiders on NBC at 3. I've followed the Raiders since I was a kid, so, yeah, bummer.

Sounds more fun than trying to tune in 620 am every Sunday hoping that you can actually get a signal.

The game would not be the same today if he would not have helped shape it. He became a joke in his late years but all fans of the NFL as we know it owe him a debt of gratitude.

Absolutely true. My dad and I talked about the same thing today.
