Stop being a meatball. So Chris Williams has zero talent even though he was widely regarded around the league as a 1st round prospect just a couple years ago? Bad players should improve with good coaching. Not every single one of them but as a unit yes. I'm not saying talentless players should play well. I'm saying below average players should improve if their coach is one of the best in the business, as Tice is often described regarding line play.

So let's balance Williams with 7th rounders Webb and Louis, old and out of position Garza and late round draft pick (for the panthers) Omiyale.

I think you will see immediate improvement when Carimi returns as Louis is doing a decent job in there.

Talent does not equal success in the NFL. So by your own logic there, it was the coaches fault that Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Matt Leinart, Cade McNown, Curtis Enis, Tony Mandarich, etc were bad in the NFL?

In Tim Couch's case, yes. Every case is different but I have not read anything about Chris Williams being lazy and immature. He clearly has NFL caliber talent and is not improving. It's possible that he just isn't cut out for the league but it would be quite an astonishing coincidence if all the players on the bears line were completely devoid of NFL caliber talent. The much more logical conclusion is that they are not being well coached. They may be bad to begin with, but if they are not improving then sooner or later you have to look at the coach. Again, this is not illogical at all. Stop misusing the term meatball. I may be wrong about this but it's not a silly theory at all.

Let's not forget that he is coaching a completely reshuffled group on an abbreviated schedule and is playing without the centerpiece of the group...and they still rushed for big yards the last two weeks and threw for big yards in week 1.

So Tice gets credit for the good stuff but no blame for the major suckage? For the record, I never said he was a bad o-line coach. I just haven't seen evidence that he is a good one. Having to completely change your offense to prevent your QB from getting killed doesn't alter that. I agree he has little to work with. Then again, I maintain that position coaches have minimal effect in terms of performance. A reduction in penalties would be a reasonable goal however.

The guy had a major undertaking this year. Webb, Carimi, and Garza had all never played the positions at the pro level for which they were slotted. Williams and Louis had combined for less than 10 career starts as guards.

Out of that, he has developed Louis nicely and Williams is ok. I think that is pretty good work. The real suck has been Omiyale. His suckitude has made everyone else look worse.

But Tice's coaching should keep making him better and better every year, right? Because coaches can coach away suckage.

IMO Omiyale was good at LT last year but he's sucking again on the right side. That doesn't make sense when you consider the LT usually has the toughest job.
