What a difference two years makes. Two years ago, Matt Spiegel was probably the second most villified Score host behind Laurence Holmes. Two years later, Laurence is sitting atop that mountain all alone while Spiegel has earned respect and credibility.

I agree.

Spiegs has gotten better and is, in large part, (pardon the pun) driving the show often now. I was never a Spiegs hater and I never totally understood those who wanted him dead and I really didn't get the massive Goff love either but whatever. It was a strange and crazy time back then, a whole confluence of events that weaved a wicked tapestry of radio love and radio hate.

Laurence still sucks unless he is with Terry.

Its not Bragging. I agree with what most have said here.

The bragging thing was built more on this board than anything (The Boat etc.)

Its on the anti Mac agenda of some NBA enthusiasts here.

No man its true.

There's one guy here who loves the NBA and has killed Mac consistently and perpetuates the bragging thing more than anyone.

Spark, how can you draw a causal relationship between those factors?

I feel the same way as Douchebag on all those all points. Does that put me in the same category?

Which isnt true?

I'm more indifferent about Mac. I used to like him, but since he got canned from ESPN, I have heard about a total of 10 minutes of the The Danny Mac show ever. I never listen to the radio at this time of the day. My knowledge of this show is only what I read on this board, which I guess is mostly negative. I've always kind of thought the bragging thing was dumb. Nobody likes to hear other people talk about themselves. Especially somebody you don't even know. He's paid to talk sports, and talk about bad 70's rock. Other than that, it's always been a button pusher for me.

Yes Cairo, you are both in it.

I think if you listened to Mac over an extended period of time, you'd find its not really bragging.

Thats why I think the bragging thing is a board creation or at least its exaggerated by the board.

Most of the bragging claims come from people who already dont like him.

I also think Spiegel still sucks.

Even if it's not bragging it's tone deaf. I don't care enough to parse out the difference.

I don't really take it as bragging either. But it's funny the different mental pictures people get. Hank Scorpio hears him talk about "Mackeyland" and he hears Mac bragging about a man-cave set-up with multiple gorgeous big screens that rivals a Vegas sportsbook. I hear the same thing and I picture a sad little basement in Northwest Indiana with a few Wal-Mart plasmas and a cheap ass display of miniature helmets.

Right and yours is the truer representation. No Rock a feller.

And the whole I dont get out of bed for...is a joke.

He never actually said that seriously.

He has always wanted to make it a guys show. A Dahl show based in but not limited to sports.

The stories come with that. Sometimes they include nice things.

It's easy to look at it like that when you are one of the 1% JORR. The rest of us aren't so lucky.

Haha, I'd recommend gloopan for consulting services. Could you imagine gloop showing up in Mac's house in a white van with his avatar on the side of it? That would be something to see.

Can't make someone give a shit. Everyone here at least watches a game or two. Its obvious that all he does is pick up a trib and a sun times.

I think if you listen to Mac on a continuing basis you will find he talks a lot about his life, which is boring basically, and a really repetitive show. Same shit, different day.

I can trace my AM sports radio listening to the early days of ESPN 1000- that fast-talking East Coast ass followed by the Flatulent Sports Beast. I remember the weeks of tryouts to pair a new cohost with Golic in the early am. I loved Kornheiser's show, even though there was very little sports talk.

It seemed that every time I turned on 670 i heard Meatball Nort trying to give away dogs or something, so i never listened to WSCR (plus the reception was worse over here in the old days)

When Mac came to 1000 afternoons I was floored- how had I missed this guy? Tha Afternoon Saloon was great. He talked about this place, so I came and lurked. HHJ got me to join. Eventually, his show got less great, and Mac left.

I listened to the new show. He asked what we thought- I told him, and he said PTFB. If he has been on the air since then, I would not know.

Mac took his ball & went home when the anti Spiegel chatter here got to be too much for him. He knows that most board members think Meatpants is weak sauce, & Mac probably feels the same way about Meat, but Mac likes the fact that he can push Meat around & tell him what to do & he does it.
