I was fully prepared for 1-2 after three games when I saw this schedule. I could have envisioned 0-3. They just played two top teams with elite offenses and statistically great defenses last year. I would have expected this to be the low point of the season. Did others expect better?

The 1-2 simply puts next week as a must win, just as GB and NO in games 2-3 made Atl a must win. This is a winnable game against an improving team but still a team they should comfortably beat at home next Sunday.

I envision 4-3 at the break and a good record afterwards.

I can't see this team being better than 8 wins. The @Lions, Vikes, @Buccs, @Eagles, Lions, Chargers stretch is going to be really tough. I dont think they are better than anyone except the Vikings in that stretch and expect a 2-4 record there.

I agree. I don't think pointing out some of the flaws means that I or others feel they will suck the rest of the season.

You are deluded.
Buccaneers are in London if that changes your equation in any way. Bucs beat the Falcons by a field goal at home.
Eagles are 1-2 as well with an OL that is worse (if that can be true) than the Bears.
Lions at home. Jeebus are you jumping on a bandwagon.
Chargers will be tough as I see them like the Saints.

Im not really jumping on any bandwagon. I think the Lions are proving that they are a playoff caliber team if Stafford stays healthy. If both teams are relatively healthy the Lions are better than the Bears. Who knows if Vick will be around for that game, but the broken hand shouldnt keep him out by then. I knew the Buccs game is in London but Im not sure how that favors either team. Im not sure who is better between them and the Bears.

It favors the Bears because it is a Buc home game being played on a neutral field. That neutral field will also most likely be 60-70% in the Bears favor.

The Bears have always fared well against Vick. They are 1-2 having one unimpressive win against the Rams, one loss as a relatively large favorite and one loss that I would classify as good at Atlanta.

You are indeed jumping on the bandwagon. The Lions are very weak in their back 7. They are a below average offensive line. That is a fairly objective analysis of the team when healthy. Then add in the considerable list of injury history and almost no depth. This is the best the Lions will be this year and you have been suckered into it.

Your premise would have more merit if the Bears had looked good in losing to superior teams. Instead they looked lost and their flaws more apparent. The bad receivers and poor o-line play is not going away. Cutler continues to be streaky & the running game is non-existent. The only consistent strength has been Peppers, Urlacher & Briggs. And the change in kick-off has hurt the Bears more than any other team.

I thought the defense held up nicely against the Packers. There were some problems with stopping the run up the middle and Steltz sucks at safety. If they play at that level against the majority of teams left on the schedule they will win games.

My premise is that they were playing three top teams. They dominated one, they were dominated by the other and they lost to the third. We don't know any more about the Bears than we did in Week 1. They are not elite and do not match up well with the elite teams of the NFC. Now we get to see how they match up with the more average teams. I expect that they will do fine. The defense will look good. The OL will revert back to being slightly below average. Cutler will have some big days and some bad days. My least optimistic projection right now still has them at 9 wins against

Panthers
Vikings
Bucs
Lions (in chicago)
Chiefs
Broncos
Seahawks
Vikings

Even the biggest detractor could not make a valid claim that they don't have a great shot at winning each of these games. I suspect they will be favored in each or less than 3 point dogs in an away situation.

I don't disagree with the idea that they "have a great shot" at winning the games listed. However, they are also capable of losing to any of those teams & given the flaws you've noted they almost certainly will mis-fire on a couple of games in which they are favored.

The record is OK given the opposition, and I still think they are a likely wildcard. But they showed some disarray at NO and especially against GB that really has to raise concerns about reaching the playoffs or advancing in them. That obsenity of a possession following the Urlacher interception is about as bad an exhibition as I've ever seen.

They have to keep dumbing down that offense until they find something the offensive line can block for. What's wrong with that any way? On 1st down the Packer's ran simple little passes and runs that got them into 2nd and 5s. Then they looked for opportunities. The Bears look to get 1st downs on 1st down plays with deep drops and deep routes. All that gets them into is 2nd and 15s.

McNabb is 5-2 career vs the Bears, including leading a shite Redskins team over the Bears @ Soldier Field last season.
And Adrian Peterson's the best running back he's played alongside in his career. New to the team, as the season progresses, I'd guess
he'll settle in more and know who to go to in late game situations.

2-4...perhaps even 1-5. At that point you can turn off the alarm and turn on the PANIC!!

I agree with you, Dolphin. Even if the Bears won 13 games this year, they'd still be a wild card cuz the Packers are gonna win 14. Hell, they might win all of them if they want to try in December.

Let's look at the Wild Card competition for the 2 spots. It's very winnable. Especially with the Bears schedule.

Division leaders: Redskins, Saints, 49ers, Packers

Wild Card Competition for 2 spots:
Bears - 2-3
Lions - 5-0
Giants - 3-2
Cowboys - 2-2
Eagles - 1-3
Falcons - 2-3
Tampa Bay - 3-2

Let's look at the Bears remaining schedule.

Vikings - Bears are favorites
Bucs (In London) - Bears might be favorites or slight dogs
@ Eagles - Bears are dogs but the Eagles can be beat
Lions - Bears are dogs but it's at home
Chargers - Bears are dogs but it's at home
@ Raiders - Bears are dogs but the Raiders aren't great
Chiefs - Bears are favorites
@ Broncos - Bears are favorites
Seahawks - Bears are favorites
Packers - Don't know how the Packers want to play this yet
@ Vikings - Bears are favorites

They'll make it in with 10 wins. Granted, making the playoffs isn't the goal and they can't win the SB.

So you've got them going 8-3 in the final 11 despite the fact that they'll likely be dogs in 6 of them. Again - what have you seen so far that makes you think that they will not only win all of the games in which they're favored but will also knock off 1/2 of the teams that are presumed to be better? If they lose even 1 of the 5 games in which they are clear favorites they are toast. And if the Bears are still lurking as a play-off contender the Packers will not lay down given what happened last year.

I was pissed off about last night's sloppy play, and M&H just pissed me off more this morning. Then I cooled down and thought about it. The Bears have 3 losses, and the teams they lost to have a combined 14-1 record. The only reason those teams have a loss at all is because they played each other. Then I looked at the upcoming schedule, and realized there is a lot of junk on it. The Bears are an average team, and they'll have an average record. While that sucks, I think we all expected them to be in the 7-9 to 9-7 category.

Yes. Bears will go 8-3 in their final 11 games.

Keep in mind we already have the tie breaker against the Falcons. That's huge The Falcons still have to play the Saints twice. The teams in the East are gonna beat up on each other and all of those teams are flawed as well. Everybody in the east has at least 2 losses except for the Redskins and they have Grossman. I doubt they'll win that division.

The Bucs/Bears game is big cuz that could give us the tie breaker over them. Bucs still have the Saints twice and the Falcons one more time.

Lions clearly are the favorites for one wild card. But that team is not great. They'll have a few losses. They still have the Packers 2 more times. They play the 49ers this week and have a few more tough games. We have to beat them at home.

The NFC is down this year. Packers are the only great team.

I've said all along that the Bucs is the swing game of the year. Go into the break at 4-3 with the Eagles next and there is room for optimism.

Right. And that's a London game. Taking a home game from the Bucs so that gives us an advantage. I've seen the London games over the years. Shitty field and we're used to that.
