Jorr, Beardown, and Rick

Should a team not want a GM with a good track record?

Should a team not expect results when they hire a manager with a winning pedigree?

Beardown, youre talking out of your ass. You say one rational thing (shit happens in the playoffs) but you seem to KNOW (and this part if for you too JORR) that the cubs wont win

How so? Do two of my favorite rational thinking baseball fans believe in curses  or are they just being anti cub :? ?

Oh and people recognize the Sox were long time losers. They just arent as high profile as the RedSox and Cubs. Deal with it.

Gming is not the same in every market BD, you know better. The Yankee and Red Sox gms have a little more pressure than Seattle and Pittsburgh.

Rick, Im not sure why I included you. I just want to tell you Ill see you in hell.

Cub fans are excited, RIGHTFULLY, because an important organizational position might be filled by a very good candidate who wasnt even known to be on the market.

If he fails, they will RIGHTFULLY want him gone.

Expectations are a bitch. My apologies to Baker, Piniella, Prior and anyone else who had to carry the giant burden of Cub fans expecting them to excel at the job they are compensated handsomely to do.

If were curt, its because its been 103 years and time is a factor.

So.

Dear, Cubs Gm's, coaches, players, and owner.

Pretty please, with sugar on top

Win the fucking World Series

Not excited, but see it as a positive step. Kinda not so happy about the Ricketts 9 years plan!

That's spot on. It's amazing how similar they are, except Hendry never made it to the World Series. Both drafted terribly and misspent.

I've yet to talk to a Cubs fan who has this thought process.

And Why the fuck wouldn't a Cubs fan be excited about this hire? Epstein is the complete opposite of the fat fuck who he's replacing and seems to have at least some knowledge of how to generally manage.

It won't be him. I have a feeling it might be Soto if its anyone off the big league roster. Cashner and McNutt are still pitching in the AFL and if they were involved they would not be pitching.

Ravech said today that no GM has ever been traded for a major league player. Also, Levine tweeted that the Cubs are working with MLB on compensation, which infers it likely involves cash.

Win the fucking World Series

You're right. They could win it with him. But I think they could win it with a lot of guys. Who were the Rays and Rockies GM this past decade? Do you know? Those GMs got their teams to the World Series. Who was the Giants GM last year? Who was the GM of the Angels when they won it? Who was the GM of the Astros when they played the Sox in the World Series? Most casual baseball fans don't know the names of these GMs

Cubs could have won in with Hendry in 2003 and with Hendry in 2008. They were the favorites in both of those playoff series. I'm just saying it's not a guarentee with Ebstein like I feel a lot of people believe. I'm also saying that a lot of GMs have been to the World Series over the last 10 years and don't get the love that Theo gets. I just think he's over hyped.

I'll be thrilled if it comes to fruition. I think any smart fan knows it will take many years to set the foundation correctly to build a real team.

Leave the guy alone for 10 years and let him run the team organization from top-to-bottom. Let him put smart people in key positions that will evaluate talent properly.

I hope we don't hear Cubs fans bitch when we haven't made the playoffs in a year or two. Give the guy some damn time.

Who is picking the player compensation? Does Epstein have a say in this? I mean, he is the GM of one or both of the teams at the same time if you think about it.

He wouldn't want to let a (perceived) good player go over in the trade.

Not one fucking cubs fan here thinks that if the cubs hire Theo they will win a world series so shut the fuck up about that. It's stupid and you all sound like dick-head sox fans. What cubs fans believe is that he will be a better president/gm than what we have had and will put this team in a better position to win on a regular basis and POTENTIALLY win a god damn world series. No one believes it is a sure thing. Why would they? If he fails and the team is in a shitty place in the future....we will run him out on a rail....just like most every other fan base would try to do. See sox and fans and Kenny Williams as an example.

All that said....I'll believe the Theo hire when I see it. I'm still waiting for the peavy trade and Dave Roberts trade to happen.

No one here has made any such statements. Rick just likes to screw with people. He is wanting to get under the skin of Cub fans. It's cool, it's his thing. Just nod and smile at him.

It would speak volumes about Epstein if he demands that Crane Kenney gets axed. Obviously he wants more power than he has in Boston so implicitly that means Kenney needs to be gone to clear the path.

All those guys coming in and failing were managers who played no role in player development and selection. McFail was a hot name, but it wasn't like the city was all over-the-top getting him.

For what seems like forever, the team has been a rudderless organization. Their was no real organizational philosophy.

At least with Theo, I feel safe to know there will be a clear set list of priorities that need to be accomplished. With Theo at the helm, the arrows begins pointing up from the start. The same can't be said for the White Sox who are going downhill quick.

I have this image of the scene from Hoosiers when Norman Dale walks through the door. He meets the fill-in coach who does things a certain way. Dale quickly asserts himself and kicks his ass out of gym.

Christ, the way people speak of Theo, I'll bet he could make Ricketts give him 100% ownership and have Ricketts agree to work for him by using a Jedi mind trick. I mean Ricketts would just give him the team without Theo paying a dime. That's how great and powerful Theo is by all accounts.

I've seen and heard this Epstein. I'm not impressed. It's one of those things where enough people say great things about someone and it just becomes the truth.

If they do hire him, I hope he demands that he can bring in his own people to build a brain trust similair to what existed in Boston. 1 guy won't get it done but a group of sharp goal minded people can. I am not sold on Tim Wilken or Oneri Fleita either. And those 3 plus Kenney ain't gonna get it done...

yeah I am sure winning 2 championships in a city that had went a LONG time without one had nothing to do with it.

That's why I wanna see what else gets done if he's hired. I agree he's been overrated and overhyped, so let's see if he demands good people can be hired and morons can be fired.
