agreed...that is why it was retarded to extend those 2 turds before hiring a gm. but if ricketts lands epstein that is a huge move for the team..it means ricketts is admitting he does not know shit and needs a proven guy to clean up his mess

yeah I am sure winning 2 championships in a city that had went a LONG time without one had nothing to do with it.

What does that have to do with anything? Let's just say the Red Sox won in 1975 and 1986. Does that make what Theo did any less great? It must cuz people always bring up the drought. That's what I don't get. He won 2 World Series with a team. The team just happen to be in Red and blue colors with a "B" on the cap and play in the park with the big wall.

Nobody considers the Yankees GM to be any good cuz he has all the money just like the Red Sox. Is that just cuz the Yankees had 20+ World Series before he got there? Must be. See what I'm saying?

Who the hell was the GM of the Red Sox when they got there in 1986? I have no idea. If the ball doesn't go through Buckner's legs he's considered a legend, right? It did go through his legs so nobody knows his name. That's how stupid this thing is.

Yeah you are right winning championships has nothing to do with anything.

Stick to talking about the Bears wildcard chances. You are like an old white 3pt shooter in the NBA. You got a small window of a sweet spot, and anywhere else on the court you absolutely suck. Stay in your sweet spot.

Neither the Cubs nor Red Sox have formally acknowledged that the Red Sox granted permission to the Cubs to interview Epstein, but an industry source said Tuesday that Cubs owner Tom Ricketts spoke with Epstein last week and that Epstein met with Cubs president Crane Kenney in Chicago last weekend.

Per ESPN Boston.

Hopefully Epstein tells Ricketts that Kenney must go.

Maybe he is cool with Kenney. Ricketts and Kenney did both go do Boston for the series this year to research the resurgence of the Red Sox and revitalization of Fenway. If he stays though he should be banned from having any say in baseball related matters.

That's the point. It had a mixture of FA he brought in and great talent that developed through the system.

CUbs hopefully will get a top flight GM. Trying to nickle and dime him comes off as petty.

As long as Theo makes all of the baseball calls, he could care what Kenney does. IF he wants to play with models and try to figure out how to renovate Wrigley, that is up to Ricketts.

IMO, Theo wants full control of the organization from top-to-bottom. Only people he wants to deal with is the Ricketts.

Remember, this guy is leaving his hometown team. He is not coming here for a lateral move. Especially for the Cubs that need a crapload of work done.

Don't you dare paint me like that. I'm a different type of white and you know it. I'll message board dunk on your ass and hit the 3 in the corner. Members of this board and "The Score" didn't know this type of white existed until I showed up.

I'm wondering what the compensation will be for Theo. If the Sox got 2 pretty good prospects for a lame duck manager I'm thinking the compensation will be pretty significant for Theo.

No way they give up Castro or Garza but anyone after that is free game. Soto and Marshall could be attractive to the Red Sox. There are no untouchables in the minors.

Ricketts also probably wants Epstein to evaluate Kenney so it's logical Kenney stays in the short term to get Epstein up to speed and later Kenney gets demoted if not in title, but in responsibility. It goes without saying that Kenney will have zero say in player issues, etc. because he is baseball stupid.

I heard a Boston writer on the radio somewhere a week or so ago say that the compensation might be restrictions instead. Saying Theo couldn't bring XYZ guys w/ him. Although, I don't know if MLB would allow restrictions on personal movement.

It's being reported it won't be someone off the major league roster but rather money and prospects. As to the quality of the prospect(s), that is not being reported.

8:05pm: Epstein would need Boston's approval to bring employees with him to Chicago, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (on Twitter). Carrie Muskat of MLB.com hears that the Cubs made an offer and Epstein is now deciding whether to leave the Red Sox (Twitter link).

Hopefully its Hayden Simpson. The good thing is that no one drafted this year is eligible to be traded. They can take whatever else they want from the list of minor league players.

8:25pm: ESPN's Karl Ravech hears that the compensation would involve prospects and/or cash, but no MLB players. Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe hears that the Red Sox wouldn't saddle the Cubs with bad contracts in the proposed arrangement and notes that Epstein remains undecided about the possible change (Twitter links).

Sounds like he is having 2nd thoughts. The deal would be done if he was going to do it.

8:15: John, Mathew and Luke tweeted that Jesus made Theo an offer. Theo is considereing becoming a Christian and denouncing Jewdisim. It all hinges on if he is allowed to take some J.ews with him. He also is negotiating to still get the Jewish holidays off. Stay tuned...

He is probably so mesmerized by Crane Kenney that he needs time to grasp the concept of teaming up with such an amazing intellect!

Plan B.........come on down!!!!!

rosenthal said the longer this goes the better the chance Epstein comes to Chicago.

I'm beginning to think the opposite. For some reason, I'm seeing a Dave McGinniss-type result.

Good for the Cubs if they do get Theo.

Hope he has better luck than the last 2 big names brought in.

I don't like this taking so long but if they got to the point where they were discussing compensation then Theo going back would be quite awkward for the Sawx. He has to be 100 percent committed to the job and the team and flirting with the Cubs to this level would make alot of his co-workers question his commitment.

Dusty and Lou to a lesser extent were lauded by fans and baseball people as Major League hires.

Again, hopefully Theo has a different ending here than those two.

He very well could be using FanBoy to get leverage to get a raise, a new contract and more power in Boston.

Like I wrote earlier...believe it when you see it. Seems clear ricketts / cubs are making a serious run at him, but certainly not clear whether he really wants to come or not. Longer it goes...more likely it falls apart in my opinion.

I can't see it extending beyond tomorrow either way. Ricketts better have a good backup plan if Epstein tells him to go fuck himself.
