With the Theo hiring, it is a no brainer that Quade will be sent packing. So who's the new manager? My vote is Sandberg. He's earned it and I believe he will be a very good manager and he'll bring positive energy to the fan base. He knows the young talent and will be a long term solution IMO.

No Sandberg. Theo is not going to want some unknown in the dugout. I really wouldn't be shocked if it's Brenly.

Brenly is unknown?

Quade is for sure gone, but I have no idea what direction Theo would go with this.

I wouldn't mind Brenly but does he have the patience for rebuilding? Epstein it is said tried to hire Sandberg for AAA Boston last year.

He is no nonsense, he knows what it takes to win, and he has seen this team for the last several years - he knows about the franchise first hand. There would be no better choice.

Joe Maddon?

Well, the guys who will be playing next year were managed by Ryno at some point probably. So wouldn't he have a more in depth knowledge of the players on the field and also a good sense of the organization?

Joe Maddon?

No way he leaves Tampa even though he should.

Really? I don't remember reading that. Obviously we are all just spit balling here. Even as a generally optimistic Cubs fan, 2014 or so is probably a realistic time frame for us to have a playoff caliber team. Maybe Theo gives Sandberg a couple years while he acquires the pieces to see if he will be a quality manager.

Understood. Just pointing out to the kid that there may indeed be a better choice.

Brenly would be FAR and away my first choice. Maybe bring Sandberg in as a bench coach, and let him learn under Brenly for awhile.

I would do just the opposite. Bring Sandburg in to manage and put a guy like Brenly next to him on the bench.

I don't think Brenly is coming out of the booth to be a bench coach.

That would be a good move and Brenly just may do it.

I would like it if they gave Ryno a chance. the team will not contend in the first year or two anyway, so why not see what kind of Manager he might be? Give him a 2 year deal and if he is not very good, you can get a new skipper when the team is getting closer to being a contending club. Otherwise I would consider guys like Tony Gwynn, who has Managed in the college ranks and is a very smart Baseball man. Ozzie Smith might be a guy I would contact too. He was a very hard worker and another real smart player. I used to go when the doors opened at the Shrine when the cardinals were in town, not just to watch batting practice, but to watch that guy take infield. He was amazing. As great a SS as he was, he still put in a lot of work every day to stay at the top of his game. Thats why he's in the Hall of Fame and one reason I think he might be a good Manager....He's gonna put in the work if he took the job.

I think Bob will stay in the booth. I'm not sure he has the fire to start from ground zero and build this thing up from the very bottom.

This will probably be Sandberg with Jody Davis as his bench coach.

I hope it's not Jody Davis. Get someone with a major league pedigree who can aide Sandberg with matchups. The bench coach has gotta know the opposing players, managers, etc. given Sandberg's lack of ML experience.

This is not the White Sox!

 I'm just throwing that out there since he is an ex cub, former catcher and managing in the minor league system.

Move Brenly down from the booth. If anyone knows this team and organization...it'd be him.

According to Cubs mouthpiece Bruce Levine, Sandberg's name never came up during the interview process when asked about potential managerial choices should Quade not be retained.
