$3M for a great young GM is a steal.

The NLCS is being decided by 2 NL Central teams. The Cubs are nowhere near as good as either of those teams at this point, even if they lose Pujols and Fielder respectively.

You have posted some incredibly stupid thoughts on this board, but this may take the cake. How in the world did the Sox drama have anything to do with Lou Piniella quitting on his team?

I'm still not sure how that "letter" justifies your 100% theory. I expected more from you Boilermaker Rick. Are there going to be people outside of Wrigley today with "In Theo We Trust" signs. Of course.

I'm going to be like most fans today. I see this as a wonderful step forward. A move that could, and should lead to a World Series and long term stability to the franchise.

Enough of this silliness. I have to finish converting my master bedroom into a Theo Epstein shrine.

100% of sox fans think Rowand for Thome was the begginning of the end.

Not really. That was one of Kenny's better moves. It was the pitching that failed them in 2006. And nobody expected Brian Anderson to be as bad as he was. And then you had Mackowiak out there too *shudders*

This is a good get for the Cubs if its true. I just hope that the idiot section of Cubdom realizes that if Theo is going to build a winner, that he is likely to do so from the ground up like he did in Boston (developing guys like Ellsbury, Youkilis, Bucholz, Papelbon, etc). The farm system will need to be developed the Cubs will probably end up being bad to mediocre for the next handful of seasons.

Will WSOX be discussing this 5 yr 15 million dollar deal? M&H are still going WSOX.

Meat would spend a few hours on this but Larry is in and Mac probably doesn't care to say more than a few words on it. Bernstein will dedicate the entire show to this but that is quite a few hours off.

True. They will at least be gone in 20 minutes........and they are talking Al Davis now instead of this huge breaking story

This is great. Theo will do everything right. Cubs will eventually have a good team. They'll have a 3 year window of winning a World Series. They'll fail in the playoffs each of those years cuz it's baseball. Shit happens in the playoffs. Espstein will leave and you'll hire the next golden boy. Remember, Andy McFail was held in the same regard as Theo when the Cubs hired him.

MLB network said Ryno might be the manager. I'm not sure if they were joking.

If Ryno comes with Epstein, I'd really like that as I think Ryno will make a very good manager.

Agreed

The hiring is a good one. He would have been my 2nd choice after Friedman though. That said, it's going to take a couple years before we see this team contending, if they build the team as I suspect they will-through the farm system. But thats fine with me. I just like the idea that in a few years we should see this team climb the ladder and get to a point where they are able to contend and then finally bring a World Series title to the North side. Most important, is that under Epstein the team should be built to contend year in and year out. But again, it's gonna take a couple years.

Rick I think you're way off in your assessment of how cub fans will view Theo.

Anyway, enjoy watching the Cubs win the next 10 World Series.

Frank, maybe not the Thome thing but 100% of Sox fans said Podsednik and Ozzie ball was what won in 05, when really it was pitching and power.

Agreed. The key is building through the farm system and putting good teams on the field every year. Doing that will result in one team getting hot in October and bringing home the trophy.

Agree to disagree.

One thing is obvious. The Cubs have a chance to make this no longer a Sox town.

I never said it was Ozzie ball. Every single post I make about the 2005 team saying why they were good I always say it was the starting pitching. They had a lot of power, but they were also able to manufacture a run when they needed to.

Anyway, not "100% of Sox fans" as you have wrongly stated twice in this thread.

Voting for him on the final ballot does not mean that "100% of Sox fans" thought Ozzie ball won in 2005.

You are wrong. You can think whatever you want, but you are wrong.

can we stop with the 100% nonsense? There is no fanbase that is 100% anything, so just shut up already.

Everyone agrees that Sox fans are smarter than Cub fans, so I agree, it's a little bit unfair to lump the very few Sox fans that say crazy things with the 100% of Cub fans that say things like "End the wait in 2008" and "Theo is the savior".
