great, except that castro has never played 3rd except for a handful of games in the minors, and dj has only played about 50 games at short in his minor league career. thats the way you want to start off the "new look cubs"? have your best player move to a position he has never played and bring in a rookie to play a position he doesnt play? thats the left side of your infield that you want to build around?

What do you mean "New Look Cubs" ?

There is not some big debut. Epstein is not bringing 25 new guys with him. He's taking over a program already in progress. He will make whatever move is prudent.

If Epstein thinks Castro's future is at 3rd, than he should definitely move him there right away.

Are you expecting them to compete next year? If not, isnt the idea do whatever you can do to set up for when you WILL compete. You seem concerned with fielding a slightly below average team instead of a way below average team. I mean, i guess I kinda go with Bernstein on that, if youre not winning a title that year, your win total doesnt really matter, all that matters is that your moving toward competing

Castro better hit the weights if he wants to play 3rd. Also they need someone with a fishing net
playing 1st. ?

No different for the first baseman than if Castro was at SS

And Castro suprisingly (to me) actually added on 8 homeruns last year from the previous year. The power is coming.

i guess i dont feel moving castro to a position he has never played before and filling the hole with a guy who doesnt play shortstop is prudent. if the cubs are going to launch ramirez, all i want to know is then who is playing 3rd? if you dont have anyone in the pipeline who can, whats the plan? no, i dont expect them to compete next year, but i do expect them to have some sort of plan if and when they start dumping someone. the 2 plans i have read in this thread this morning dont make any sense to me. i am certain epstein will have one that makes some sense.

Totally agree with your last sentence.

Pretty sure Epstein will have a plan.

It will be funny to look back on these threads in a few years.

For $16M, he may stick around.

Not a chance. He had a big enough year to get a contract from someone for 3-5 years at big money. he wants to cash in on that. With the lack of any other good 3rd base options coming up for free agency, he will have opportunities to choose from. He wants the long term security and the ability to dog it and sit out when he feels the need. if he is on another contract year it means having to work harder at his job. No-he definitely opts out.
