Yup. I'm with ya on the wait until "thing". I know if this were to completely fall apart...the cubs and ricketts will get ripped hard. I don't think they would really deserve it. Nothing has come out from their end....it's all from Boston. Boston seems to be being pricks now....a scorned lover...and we'll see what Selig does to make the situation even worse....and I'm sure the cubs will get fucked somehow. I like the fact that ricketts doesn't seem to be bending over and taking it. Fuck Boston.

The Theo deal will be done within a couple of days. Not to worry.

Boston is already internally naming Cherington their new GM. This is not going to fall through. They may be haggling over the compensation or waiting until the off day on Tuesday.

Am hearing there's a good chance Theo Epstein will hire #Padres exec Josh Byrnes to join him with #Cubs.

Yeah I heard this. What the hell? No reason to give up your best prospect for an executive. The Cubs suck.

They probably shouldn't have to, but I would be fine with this if needed.

I am good with the Theo move either way. But tell the BoSox to go screw. You want him back next year at 7 MIL to be a lame duck? Fine you can have him we will sign him next year. Dicks.

Fuck the Sawx. They don't need to rape whats left of the Cubs minor league system. Jackson is supposed to be a keeper.

Just spoke to a GREAT source on the Theo compensation talks. Red Sox are asking for an insane package of players. Cubs are saying no way.

This is getting to the point where Theo is going to have to take the year off, tell Byrnes to take the GM Cubs job and then have a middle man between him and Byrnes relaying "what he would do" in every situation until his contract expires.

It's got to be Jackson, McNutt, Szczur, Ha and Lake. The Sawx are going to fuck themselves in this.

No. It's a negotiation. This is like a mildly difficult divorce settlement. Theo hasn't been fucking the Cubs behind the Red Sox back for the last ten years. That was Jim Hendry.

I don't quite understand. Can't Theo opt out of his contract and do whatever he wants? I thought the compensation was just the Cubs doing something nice to save face with boston for allowing them to speak with theo? Do the Cubs really have to give them something?

They are making this harder than it needs to be. They realize they aren't in a position of power because Theo is out but more of a position just to fuck this up as much as possible. They can technically ask for whatever they want and say no until they get it and then make him sit at home.

I'm sure there is some non compete bullshit they have to waive along with the buyout.

He's under contract to Boston for another year. He can't just opt out. You might be confusing him with Andrew Friedman in Tampa, who has a year to year deal.

I agree with calling Boston's bluff at some point. I was trying to make a joke, but this is similar to a divorce. Boston will be fine, but they are in turmoil right now. That craziness is being partially let out on the Cubs. If you're Boston, why not push the Cubs as far as you can? This is going to get done.

Still say ok. Jackson is the only guy on that list worth a damn.

I'm sure it will get done one way or another but there is virtually no limit to what they ask. If they are too absurd with it MLB may just step in and say no players can get traded for anything other than another player and end all of this and also put in some rules for this type of thing. Something like the team losing the non player gets twice his remaining salary and they get a sandwich round draft pick while the taking team pays the money and loses a 2nd round pick.

Not confusing the two. In football, if you're allowed to interview for a higher position, you're allowed out of your contract (if permission was given), but not the same if you move for a lateral position. I thought that was part of the reason why the cubs were offering a higher position?

That's definitely how it works in Football. However, is that only for coaches? If a player personnel guy gets a shot at GM, but has a contract, can they walk?

Regardless, that's apparently not how Baseball works.

Apparently not. Just weird that Boston allows the cubs to talk to him (while under contract) but the cubs can't hire him for a higher position without their consent AND compensation.. just doesn't make sense to me
