I think you might have that wrong. He is hired to do a specific job and I am going to say Theo easily wins a Hostile work lawsuit if he is asked to do anything but his job as he has been doing so for the last 9 years.

The Red Sox fucked themselves on this deal and they know it. Allowing the Cubs to talk without defining compensation and then naming Theo's succesor.

Everyone thinks they can just send him home and pay him, but I don't think that is correct. They need a reason to send him home, based on something he did.

I think both sides realize that now and the Cubs are now just saying no to every prospect on the table.

Can Bsoton say the Cubs are being unreasonable, Yes. But they have no obligation at this point to be reasonable if they think Boston has to take whatever they give them.

Hostile work lawsuit. I'm going to have to make a note of that. Thanks.

I read reports this morning that Theo is reaching out to hire his GM for the Cubs (meaning he would be team president). The rumor of the day is that he is eying the current GM of the Padres in which the Padres may very well be entitled to compensation as well. They can have Hayden Simpson and they can fucking like it.

I'm tired of hearing this (theo hired) will get done in a few days. Ken Rosenthal (sp?) was on M&H this morning and he was restating that fact. Get the fucking thing done already or move on. Now we already have rumors about who theo is going to hire and the MF'r isn't even officially on board yet. The longer this goes...the more I am waiting for a "cubby occurrence"

Again, if I'm the Red Sox, I'm giving the Cubs a bad contract rather than taking one of their questionable prospects.

So the Cubs are willing to pay compensation for a team president AND a general manager but they are balking at the idea of including Trey McNutt?? The great Trey McNutt is all that stands in the way of the grand plan?? Something doesn't sound right about this whole thing.....

No one really knows that the Cubs are balking at sending McNutt or not. Let's let this thing play out and see what happens. If the Cubs do something stupid I am sure Keyser and the gang will have ample opportunity to rip them. Until then no one really knows what is happening.

One of my guys Judd Sirrott, who is decent enough friends with Ari Kaplan, who is the Cubs mini Theo has been told this is Tim Wilkens, Crane Kenny and Tom and Todd Ricketts project. Nothing else has even leaked to him, or he is just not telling Judd.

Either way, if CK is in on this I already dont like it. While I can only guess the guy has accepted some type of new title or lateral move, I still question how much he wants the 38 year old Jewish wiz kid coming in and essentially being his boss, as you know they are going to cross paths at some time over some issues? Club house facilities, expenses, etc.

I forgot those special real estate contract laws that don't apply to people, maybe Good Dolphin can correct himself now that you pointed it out to him.

Doesn't Theo have a history of histrionics surrounding his contract negotiations, wonder if he has anything to do with the delay. Doesn't seem like he should, but who knows.

What has Crane Kenney done for the Cubs? What single thing has he done that warrants his existence?

I just spoke with two excellent sources on Epstein negotiations and it appears deal is basically done with announcement of agreement tmrw.

Looks like a deal is close and if it's not the boys on the northside baseball message board are cumming on each other for nothing. Though I don't think they mind.

Rumor has it Lord Theo has arrived in the second city. I'm so excited that the Cubs will never be bad again.

Now we can sit back and watch the Championships roll in. I'm thinking minimum 8-peat.

This is pretty much old news by now but anyway:

By Bruce Levine
ESPNChicago.com

The Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox are expected to have an agreement on compensation that would make Theo Epstein the Cubs' president of baseball operations at some point Thursday morning, according to a Major League Baseball source.

A source with knowledge of negotiations said: "The two sides are on the 5-yard line."

A news conference is expected on Friday.

Two other sources confirmed ESPNChicago.com's report that San Diego Padres general manager Jed Hoyer will be named Cubs GM within a couple of days. But a source told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes late Wednesday night that the Cubs have not asked for official permission to interview Hoyer.

Hoyer worked with Epstein in Boston as assistant general manager.

Bad analogy? Probably not a football guy.

Maybe Bruce is his own source?

Which 5-yard line? And are the Bears involved in this play?

Bernstein is going to have a hard time pretending he's not a Cubs fan with two saber loving guys in Theo and Hoyer coming.

•Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Padres assistant general manager Jason McLeod will join Hoyer and Epstein in Chicago. McLeod was Boston's amateur scouting director under Epstein before leaving for San Diego with Hoyer after the 2009 season.
•The Red Sox are less optimistic than the Cubs that a deal for Epstein is near, according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. "There seems to be a fundamental divide in the way the two clubs look at this," said Silverman's source.
•The Red Sox and Cubs are "finalizing" the deal, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. They're expected to announce the deal tomorrow. It which would not include Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt, Matt Szczur or cash. MLB has told the Cubs they can have a news conference tomorrow, a World Series travel day, according to Levine.

I guess Ricketts needs a few more "baseball men" to report to his new "baseball man".

In all seriousness, this is a good thing getting together a front office that has the pedigree to get shit done.

Probably the Sox, but it won't be by much. Sox at probably 81-83 wins. Cubs at 78-80. Woo hoooo Sox win.

Next years motto can continue this years theme: We do not suck as much as the Cubs.
