The Cubs have brought in respected field managers and upper managers. They have signed big name players to big time contracts. All of this has ended with the same results as when they had a team of bums. So what do you do as a Cub fan when this move fails?

You seem certain he will fail.

Why?

hmmm...because it's the cubs

I think he is a good GM. I think it was the right move. I also think he is an overrated GM who's overratededness has gone stratospheric over the past month.

Throw all the signs, shirts, and banners in the same dumpster that holds all the "In Dusty We Trust" memorabilia.

Maybe the racist letters will be interesting (or real) enough to print.

Sox fans just trying to hide their disgust with the Ventura hire by trying to throw stones at the Cubs. Nothing really to see here.

Ironic. If Epstein ends up performing on the same level as the the guy your avatar is based on, "rain on your Cubs parade" would be a gross understatement.

Nope. That was a great hire. Dolphin asks a legit question here.

If the Cubs go about the process the right way, meaning building in the minor leagues, they will eventually win with this regime. It started with the most recent draft where they signed everyone. Clearly, Ricketts is intent on building this thing up as he has hired one of the best. The difference between the Cubs and the rest of their division foes is they won't lose good players due to money concerns. The Cubs will be able to retain the Pujols and Fielders should they ever develop one. I think this ends happily, just not quickly.

Also, let the record show that a Cubs fan brought up the names of Ventura and Mark Parent before anybody else.

I have not seen a single Sox fan on this board bash the move at all. Don't let facts get in the way though, RFDC

Wrong. A legit question would be IF he fails...not WHEN. By using the word WHEN....it reflects just another POS sox fan that can go piss off.

I brought up ventura to "shoot back" at the POS sox fan that started this post.

Based on the Cubs history, dolphin used the correct word. He explains why in his posts (big name managers, big name free agents).

Try again, JerryJonesman.

Epstein is one of the top 3 baseball guys in the game. I think the Epstein hire can be the cure for many of the Cubs problems. The biggest problem the Cubs have had has been developing major league talent in the minors. He has a proven track record of doing that. Other than Dusty's run (that was filled with injuries to their best players) the Cubs haven't really put a championship caliber team on the field. IMO finding a really good baseball guy (not a scout) is the thing the Cubs needed to do a long time ago. I believe this team can compete in the next year or 2 with the right moves and be in position to compete for years to come after that.

The cubs biggest problem is wrigley field. It plays like 2 different parks....and then if you want to throw in the lack of night games / consistent schedule, etc... The cubs have many problems....but the park is the one constant in all these years of losing.

Cubs are going to spend money. You don't hire a guy like this and then decide to get cheap. They'll find some creative revenue sources to help fund the spending spree and they'll get some help with some of the deals coming off the books. Within 2 years I believe the Cubs will be competing for a title. I expect the Cubs to make a run at Prince. Pujols price has gone up since the WS and at his age I don't think you can expect many more great years from him.

I agree that they'll go hard after Prince and may very well sign him with ARam's moneyish. It's going to be a real ugly 3B position next year between Jeff Baker/DJ/Josh Vitters when they are out of it come August.

Speaking of THE FACTS

Within Seconds of the announcement of Ventura as manager you started the thread with...

Just heard it on ESPN1000
what the fuck?!

Is this considered a compliment in Soxland?

Ok? What is your point? And this has exactly what to do with the Cubs?

That was my exact reaction You know, when you hear/read something that is unexpected? Does this mean that you have never first heard of a trade or move by a team and you say "what the fuck"?

"Cubs traded for player x" "Bears signed player y"
Fans say that all the time, bigfan.

I generally say to myself "what the fuck" after reading one of your posts as well, but that is more of a "how can somebody say something to stupid" type reaction than shock.

I never made the argument...but don't shoot the messenger. I think the hire of Epstein qualifies as doing just about everything they could possibly do to win. Where do you go from there?
