All this week for Larry. Woo hoo!!! You can discuss the deeper meaning of why Mitch allowed them to reunite if you want. But I'd also like to engage all of you in a more fun discussion.

What's the best black-Italian combo in the history of black-Italian combos?

-Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr (Rat Pack)

-Jiggets and North (Ponzi Scheme)

-Apollo & Rocky (Rocky)

-Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction)

-Drinky & Goff (Team Bernstein)

Feel free to give more.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Abbatacola & Goff are subbing for Laurence only through Thursday 6-10p on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com, and I don't think there's a "Bears All Access" show scheduled due to the bye week. There are three things in Laurence's show that'll be incorporated when Matt & Jason guest host through Thursday. One is the pointless cross-promotion with CBS2's Ryan Baker at around 8:50p. Two is "Ask Herb" tonight at 9p featuring SCORE producer Herb Lawrence trying to answer listener questions. Three is "HATER WEDNESDAY". That's a go at 9p tomorrow night.

Goff is subbing for Mac Friday with Matt Spiegel 9a-1p, while Matty holds court at 10p Friday as regularly scheduled.

Hub Arkush is on the docket to guest host Friday night's 6-10p show, and chances are better than even money that guests won't be far behind when Hub has an airshift. Hub is also working the sidelines for the Westwood One national broadcast Sunday night when the Cowboys & Eagles clash in Philadelphia. Dave Sims & James Lofton will paint the picture for Westwood One, and I wonder if Hub will have the Hall of Fame receiver on Friday night's show. Hub thinks very highly of James...

well hey, if das goffenheimer can manage to keep drinky laughing enough to avoid his usual schtick of seeming perpetually angry in order to come off as "edgy" it could be a pretty good listen. i'll give it a chance with an open mind, even tho nothing can ever hope to replace the institution that is spending a people's hour with SHAKE THAT and Ryan "Hard Bake" Baker. it's not so much a radio show as it is a way of life.

as i've said before and i'll surely say again, the bat amattacola solo experience often makes me feel like i'm being sneered at because i'm an idiot who needs to be told what time of day it is. it's like matt has something to prove to all of us, and whilst i don't think it's intentional or contrived as much as it's just an accidental byproduct of his hyperfocus on being good at radio, he's infinitely better when he's laughing and goofing around and "taking the piss" as they say in the land of a million new bears fans. example: grandma trivia was kind of sledgehammer-to-the-head trying really hard, but its heart was in the right place, especially on a saturday night show.

so if the endeavor feels like a "the afternoon drive grown ups are away so let's goof off" situation, i think it's going to be a good week. if the endeavor has a pinocchio complex where it tries really hard to be a real sports talk radio show, then i think i'm going to be compelled to pop on some kaplan just to get more fuel to hate that fucker.

edit: and whenever you have goff, you're only one letter away from goof. coincidence? * twilight zone theme *

i'd like to clarify something just in case my writing up there would eventually draw the ire of a certain board tough guy who seems to be keen on "dispensing justice" lately...

it's kind of like this attitude....

that's the vibe i get a whole bunch when i listen to matt's solo stuff. it's like, since he's unequivocally RIGHT about whatever he's talking about, while he can't tell people on the radio who piss him off to shut the fuck up, he can and sometimes DOES call them dumb... and when he's in that really righteous snappy mode, man, i can feel the smarm when he makes his dramatic pauses and stuff and like, it's not enough to ruin the show... i'd just hope that he was seemingly having more fun doing it.

anyways, i know i'm dumb, wrong, and should get fucked so i'll head out before i'm either told not to listen, or that i'm dumb/wrong/fucked because i do listen, etc =D

I'm giving them a listen tonight.

1. Drinky is the alleged Cubs guy and Goff won't let him get a word in about the big Cubs story for the first 15 minutes.

2. They took Bernstein's cue to be over-the-top lusters over Theo.

3. Goff acting as though drinky is the greatest Cubs reporter ever is a little too much for me. Goff, Larry and Drinky do this for each other all the time. Stop it guys. You saying your friend is great doesn't make the listeners think that they are great no matter what you think.

4. Drinky swings back at Bernstein. Says stop talking about Crane Kenny!!!!

5. Goff does Bernstein's thing of warning the callers not to say they are Cubs or Sox fans before they speak. He says he hates it and he'll straight up murder you if you do it.

What about the pride of Harvey, Tommy Dreesen and Tim "Venus Flytrap" Reid? They invented that one black guy/one white guy thing before North did!

you move fast, beardown. you've got a whole show's worth of observations in 1+ segments (i dunno how long the theo presser replay went for) so i can only imagine what you'll have by 10:05pm =D

i'm going to listen for awhile and give a very honest assessment. think of me as like a free focus group!

I'm not gonna listen to the entire show. Somebody can take over at 7pm. I'll jump back in at 9 or 9:30.

Then we'll do a big post game show. I'm sure drink and Goff will join us.

Goff asking drinky to set the scene of the press conference was a little weird. This wasn't a Royal wedding for the love of God.

Drinky explained it by saying there were a bunch of media people, Theo sat down and everybody asked questions.

Really? Wow. I never knew that was how a press conference worked.  That was very small time guys. You sounded like rubes. A couple of well-scrubbed hustlin' rubes.

1. Goff is over caffinated

2. Cmon dude. You're getting lazy. This wasnt Bernstein's cue and now when they really do take Berns cue on something you will be the little Beardown that cried wolf.

3. Goff was pushing Matt the Cubs guy a little much in that first segment. It was over the top. I suspect that is more for the always changing audience but not good (This was originally my response to number one.)

4. Correct that was absolutely directed at Bernstein

5. Thats a solid point he has, there is never a good reason to list your fan credentials.

I like this pairing, they sound good. Hope they get into it with a few callers.

By the way RPB, that was a good point about Bernstein in the B&B thread. Saying that Bernstein is gushing over this hire cuz he thinks the Cubs hired him. That is was basically Bernstein lusting over himself. Nice job with that observation. Spot on.

Its pretty obvious especially with how he was fantasy team presiding today with what to do first.

I think he thinks Epstein is gonna run it exactly like he would. He might hold on to that for a while. It will be interesting when Epstein makes an anti Bernstein move how Dan will react.

I predict Dan will bend on many of his previous baseball stances for the sake of aligning with Epstein. JORR'S theory that Dan is a cub fan will be a theme with callers.

It will be an intersting year.

BTW, awesome Terry misrepeating Dan and gets corrected immediately by Dan moment.

They were talking to a caller about payroll and Epstein not having money

Berns: They will spend. He knows what they will spend. You think he wouldnt ask

Boers: hahaha

Berns: Yes, he has guarentees. You think he would take the job without knowing? Without asking about that?

Boers: Oh yeah, he'll be asking

Berns: He already HAS asked....and he KNOWS

Boers: Yep

First hour is over!!! I'm out. I give it a 4 on a 1-10 scale. I need a drink. These two always make me a nervous wreck. Sports talk shouldn't do that to a listener. Too fast, too shouty and too confusing is the way I describe this hour.

Somebody take over. I'll be back later.

I just can't imagine John Kass or Dave Wills or Coztansa or me wetting ourselves over the Cubs hiring a general manager. That's because we're Sox fans. I don't know what bernstein is.

I'm back!!!!

None of you guys have been giving the play by play.

Right now they're doing a thing called "Ask Herb". Oh my God, based on the "Ask Herb" intro and what I've heard from Herb on B&B, he's a dumb ass meatball. Why do they celebrate him and treat him like he's some great talent? I don't get that.

I actually do kind of get it. He's another poor Score producer. Drinky and Goff know his plight and feel bad for him. So they're trying to give him some shine. They're trying to do for him what B&B did for them. It's pathetic and sad.

No. It's really not great. It reminds me of Jr High talk in the cafeteria. I loved it when I was in Jr. High, it's not so great to hear it from 30+ year olds on the radio

What the hell happened to my Score 670? It all started with drinky and Goff. Now all producers get air time.

There is absolutely no management or control at the Score. To allow this on the radio is amazing. Mitch just doesn't give a shit. I guarentee you that the next Score GM won't allow this stuff.

Goff is laughing like a hyena at every dumb thing Herb says. This is disingenuous black on black love. It's very obvious, Goff. You're not helping Herb. People see through it.

Alas, in closing, I don't feel Goff and Drinky are taking their reunion week seriously. This was their chance to prove to Mitch and Zim that this show can work in a day part. That they can be prime time.

They went into this show with no preperation or care like they did when they were a rookie combo. It was a half-ass effort and they just wanted to get through it and collect their $150. Mitch is gonna blow them up again. They have nobody to blame but themselves. But, of course, knowing drinky and Goff, they'll cry, bitch and blame others. That's what they do.

When they came on the scene I had high hopes for them. I thought they were gonna revolutionalize sports talk. I thought they would also help solve racism showing that an Italian and an african american can do great things together. Showing racist Chicago that we can all get along. They have failed me and you. The racists have won. :(

Speaking of Herb, Drinky has him on on the weekend evening show as his fantasy football expert. This is easily the worst sports segment on the Score. Herbie is telling callers to start players who are injured or on a bye week & doesn't know what team they are on. Its really bad.
For some real fun, they should team Herb with Gerry Dinardo on Tuesday nights.

you know, i didn't have a chance to listen all the way through but the parts i heard were indeed good quality radio. first and foremost it sounded like they had a blast doing the show and that translated quite well for the listener.

early on it seemed like goff was driving the show while matty had the "color commentator" role (if this isn't lobbing a softball to beardown i don't know what is) however as time wore on they seemed to blend together into a heterogeneous mixture of post-producer goodness. sure, i wasn't exactly riveted to spend ~10 minutes hearing about joe ostrowski's wedding and, gasp, whether or not jay-goff was invited; nonetheless the segment didn't feel forced or awkward or like it was something other than the type of conversation that they'd have off air, so it worked for what it was. one of the more endearing aspects of the score juxtaposed against the competition is that on the score there's many times where you feel like you're a fly on the wall during a regular organically-borne conversation between the staff, as opposed to the more strictly-mechanized/overproduced dialogue mandated by the mothership.

from there let's see ummm... marcus spears was a fun guest, and i think they had a couple'a other solid ones who i caught bits and pieces of... and well, while #askherb isn't likely to crack the top-10 twitter trends of the evening anytime soon the segment served its purpose in the heart of #THEPEOPLESHOUR (always trending top-3 because twitter fears the consequences if it isn't) cuz just like i mentioned with the aforementioned juxtaposition of the score/ESPN conversational natures, it provided some of that score "insider humor" vibe that's usually quite endearing compared to the standard banal overtly "professional radio" fare down the dial.

oh and hard bake was there, so we can go back down to defcon 2. * loud buzzing noise *

all in all, it was an enjoyable listen and if i've got the radio on from 6-10 this week i'll be sure to pop on over for a gander. tally ho!
