“I think it does a disservice to someone like Ryne Sandberg, who did manage for the Cubs at the Triple-A level,” Corgan told The Mully and Hanley Show. “(He) obviously is a Cub legend. I think it does a disservice to him to not even be brought in for an interview.

“He’s an adopted Chicagoan in the way that Ditka is. I think a guy like that deserves a meeting, I’m sorry. He deserves a meeting. He deserves to be able to sit down, one hour, in an office and say, ‘This is why I should be the manager of the Chicago Cubs.’ Now, if he doesn’t make it from that point of view and they go, ‘He’s not our guy,’ whatever, but to not even let him through the door I think that’s a little bit childish. I don’t get that. I mean I’m all for Theo Epstein. I so glad that he is now a member of the Cubs organization. I like the way the Ricketts family is trying to change the team. I’ve actually had some personal contact. I feel their enthusiasm. They’re obviously committed, and I obviously love the Chicago Cubs, but I think it’s a little childish to not bring in a Cubs legend who at least deserves the hour meeting. OK, I’m not Ryan Sandberg, right, but if that was me I would be ‘peed’ off.”

Did Yelly and Comedy Killer inform him that Epstein interviewed him a year ago?

A lot of teams would have done exactly what Corgan suggests with no intention of hiring the guy. I'm pretty sure that Sandberg is appreciative they didn't do that to him. Obviously they had already decided to go a different way.

As the front man of a band that's sold well over 20 million albums, never sure he was obscure...

Guys like Reason and myself were begging the Cubs to hire Girardi and he only went on to win a WS when they didn't. We were in the minority last year that knew Quade was a mistake and was begging the Cubs to hire Sandberg. I don't want to see the Cubs make the same mistake 3 times and not listen to us.

This, but for the BC types, bands like the Pumpkins were part of that noise that they hated back in the 90's because their slacker kids were listening to it.

Big Chicagoian: I'm sorry that you don't like music made after 1979.

but he wrote a song called Obscured....

and just because you are not aware of the fact that they are touring, releasing a new album, and repackaging their back catalog, and starting a wrestling company does not mean he's "obscure."

I guess I missed where the Smashing Pumpkins were relevant the last 10 years. He and his music have faded into obscurity. It's not a difficult idea to comprehend.

I think the important point we're missing here is that Billy can take his baseball thoughts, shine them up real nice, turn them sideways, and stick them straight up his Mike Quade looking candy ass.

We're going to have to agree to disagree...the last 4-5 years alone have brought a lot of activity under the Smashing Pumpkins name. Just because they're not a Top 40 radio band (they never really were), doesn't mean they've become obscure.

Would you consider Rush, Led Zepplin, or Skynard to be obscure?

Im certaint he Pumkins get more current airplay despite the Loop's 12 song rotation

I would call them obscure, only because they haven't been a part of anything at all mainstream. And not suggesting they should, or even would want to be. But since they aren't, lot of folks don't know them, and there are a lot of folks who may know the name Smashing Pumpkins but not know who Billy is.

Apparently no one knows the definition of obscure.

Here's a hint: It does not mean unknown.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/obscure
obscure

ob·scure adj \äb-ˈskyu̇r, əb-\

Definition of OBSCURE
1a : dark, dim
b : shrouded in or hidden by darkness
c : not clearly seen or easily distinguished : faint <obscure markings>

2: not readily understood or clearly expressed; also : mysterious

3: relatively unknown: as a : remote, secluded <an obscure village> b : not prominent or famous <an obscure poet>

Which of those would describe the Smashing Pumpkins?

Big Chicagoan is intimidated by Billy Corgan.

Are you referring to now?

Melancholy and the infinite sadness could not have been more mainstream.

Today, Billy Corgan is relatively unknown and not prominent. I hate to break it to all you smashing pumpkins fans, but no one gives a shit about them or Billy Corgan.

Unknown enough to be on 50,000 Watt radio station.

I don't care about Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga, as such...not relevant and relatively unknown in my book!

He is so unknown he was brought on a radio show in a major market to talk sports, even though he's an unknown musician.

Jim Belushi isn't obscure. He just sucks at comedy.
