the guy had his time in the 90s... those OG pumpkins had some good songs that weren't necessarily my cup of tea, but i acknowledge their presence in the greater pop culture lexicon of the 1990s.... nowadays i think it's him and a bunch of studio musicians, which is the way a lot of bands with an asshat frontman go (screeching weasel is yet another chicago band that comes to mind... ben's got a bunch of new studio musicians, he's just said no to vapid and jughead is long gone, and he's still cranking out tunes and playing shows @ reggie's...) and yeah.
