Larz also says Larry is one of a few canidates that NBC 5 is considering. He says Larry to NBC 5 is not official yet. Did our very own Doc jump the gun?

http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/message-board

Posted by Larz on 10/28/2011, 12:09 pm, in reply to "WSCR's Larry Holmes to replace Paula Faris as NBC Sports Anchor"

The truth is Laurence Holmes is on the very short list of possible hires by WMAQ-TV as another sports anchor to beef up their dwindling staff. He has not been officially hired, though.

It makes perfect sense, since he has been working freelance for the station on the air and online for over 4 years now. However, don't expect any official news of a new hire for a few weeks.

I know. But he's saying they're considering him. You said it's a done deal. That's what I mean.

Who's your source, Doc? I know you won't give the name. Just say if it's a Score person, an NBC 5 person or somebody from the "Stab a cracker Club"?

Of course they are going to say they are "considering" him. They won't say anything else until it is announced officially.

I'm telling you the deal is done. Obviously, scheduling details need to be worked out and it may not be a done deal that he leaves The Score but it is likely unless NBC is able to land a certain individual that they are targeting from outside the market which might alter how much work goes to our very own LoHo.

My source is good.

Reasons it's a good hire.

1. He's cheap. First timer so he won't get what they pay experienced people.

2. He's well spoken. I've always said that of Larry. That's half the battle in reading a prompter.

3. Larry's weirdness won't be on display on TV. It's just giving highlights and sports stories so the viewers won't be subjected to Larry's hatred of white people, him playing the race card, him bragging about how great he is, his telling lies to boost his image, comic book strories and how much he loves mommy

Reasons it's a bad hire.

1. He's not camera friendly. He looks awkward on TV and has that 1000 yard stare from the times I've seen him. His smile isn't a good one. Viewers will be turned off by that. This stuff is important in TV. You can't scare viewers.

2. He's gonna make the NBC white women feel uncomfortable in the pre show news room. These are respected news women. They're not take to his weird conversations when they're trying to write serious news stories. Or him staring at them from his desk. He might say something wrong to one of them where he's trying to joke around and they don't take it that way. It wouldn't surprise me if a sexual harassment suit is filed. Larry is used to talking to Score hosts and lowley producers - all male. Those conversations won't fly with NBC 5 people. You have to be more civilized and reserved in this type of setting.

Nice of Larz to be ripping stories from the CSFMB

I don't even get why people are surprised. Like the integrity challenged Larz said without sourcing Doc, it makes sense

Maybe Larz meant to PM you Doc.

LoHo is auctioning off 15 minutes on the air with him for charity at an event tonight.

Wish I could make it. Somebody go bid for me.

I was flipping around yesterday, and noticed BTN's Eric Collins subbing for Paula Faris on NBC5's 5p newscast as well as "Sports Sunday" long after the Eagles put the Cowboys to bed on "Sunday Night Football". Yes, the same Eric who once replaced Lou Canellis on the long since defunct SportsChannel when the Bulls were bigger than life and they did "Live from the Locker Room" on their postgame show in the '90s and who also calls Dodgers' games East of the Mississippi on FOX Sports' Prime Ticket today.

that was my first thought when i entered this thread...

you know what your problem is, good doctor? it's the same problem that george clooney's character had in "o brother where art thou" --- larz is bonafide, and everyone only wants their scoops from a bonafide man mm-hmm.

I'm sad this lesser thread of a ripped off story is getting hits while the original breaking news thread lies dormant.

I wonder if the subject even comes up at 6p tonight on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com. I do know this. That new weather girl on the weekends at NBC5, Cheryl Scott, wants to do Laurence's show.

Actually, Holmes was talking about Scott before he took off for vacation, Doc. I follow Cheryl on Twitter, CherylScottWX, and I noticed one of her tweets over the weekend suggested that she wants to be a guest on LoHo's nighttime show.

i'm sad that a solid coen bros movie reference seemingly went to waste.

i'm going to interpret your silence as saying "that was one of life's little perfect moments, sini, and i did not want to possibly taint the aura of perfection by saying anything in the wake of your magnanimous stead"

Larry "I believe there will be more of that in the future"

Regarding his time on NBC 5

Yup. Loho confirmed it this morning. This guy just isn't cut out for TV, except maybe the Logo channel.

I just asked him about that rumor on Twitter..

Quote:
@LHolmes670 @paulafaris @jaycutler6 Read a rumor you were taking over for her at NBC5 is that true?

Quote:
@LHolmes670
Laurence Holmes@souleater8147 no that is not true.

I could have phrased the question better but I wasn't expecting a reply honestly.

Poor Paula

Even though I'm one of the guys here that likes Laurence, this setup is uncomfortable. I'm always waiting for Adamle to say "Do you remember the time I flew a jet into the moon while Wilbur Marshall was standing on the water?"

Also, why is Hampton always shoulder raping my guy Laurence. Back off Big Arkansas.

Oh goodness. Laurence is so taken by Paula Faris, he can't even speak. That was like watching my friend invite a girl to the Homecoming dance in the early 90's. Come on big cat! As one of the leaders of the professional wrestling section, don't bring up professional wrestling. He'll get it done.

Jill Carlson still has an on air television sportscasting job in this city at a major affiliate, just to add some further perspective.
