I know this isn't a movie nor a TV show, but we don't have a books section. I also know there are a few fellow Dark Tower fans on this board.

Been hearing a lot about this book lately. From StephenKing.com:

At some point, while worrying over the copyedited manuscript of the next book (11/22/63, out November 8th), I started thinking—and dreaming—about Mid-World again. The major story of Roland and his ka-tet was told, but I realized there was at least one hole in the narrative progression: what happened to Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susannah, and Oy between the time they leave the Emerald City (the end of Wizard and Glass) and the time we pick them up again, on the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis (the beginning of Wolves of the Calla)?

There was a storm, I decided. One of sudden and vicious intensity. The kind to which billy-bumblers like Oy are particularly susceptible. Little by little, a story began to take shape. I saw a line of riders, one of them Roland’s old mate, Jamie DeCurry, emerging from clouds of alkali dust thrown by a high wind. I saw a severed head on a fencepost. I saw a swamp full of dangers and terrors. I saw just enough to want to see the rest. Long story short, I went back to visit an-tet with my friends for awhile. The result is a novel called The Wind Through the Keyhole. It’s finished, and I expect it will be published next year.

It won’t tell you much that’s new about Roland and his friends, but there’s a lot none of us knew about Mid-World, both past and present. The novel is shorter than DT 2-7, but quite a bit longer than the first volume—call this one DT-4.5. It’s not going to change anybody’s life, but God, I had fun.

He's missing an even better story. What happened between the story in wizard and glass and the first book. Heck even the story before the story in wizard and glass must be interesting. I still believe he would have been better off letting someone else finish the series.

I'll read it but that really isn't that interesting.

I'm much more interested in the third Jack Sawyer book.

The story of Jack in Roland's world is the one great story left.

I'm not the biggest King fan nor a big critic. IMHO Wizard and Glass is the best thing I've read of his and the way he ruined that series over the last three books is a shame. I hope he has a good story here.

He got scared.

He didn't have an ending, so he made the story meaningless.

Same thing with Lost.

that is pretty much the story of a bunch of his books...at least the ones I've read. His short stories are really good though.

I can see your point the first 95% of the book is great the last 5% ruined it.

Yeah, the ending was pretty... I dunno. It is what it is (literally).

The Talisman and Black House are very good.

It, The Stand, and Insomnia I read at least once a year.

He's got a new book coming out here in a little bit, 11/22/63. Apparently about timetravel and preventing JFK's death.

That was kind of touched on a bit in the last Dark Tower book when they were in the tunnels under the restaurant.

And Odessa thought of JFK as the last gunslinger.

Ahh, good point. I did remember the infatuation King has with the assassination, and that Odessa thought.

I'll get around to reading it when the paperback comes out. Not that thrilled. I like learning about Mid-World but would have preferred more young Roland or the old Gilead.

The movie adaptations are still dead from last I read in the summer. Maybe HBO can swoop in and do something with it.

Have you read the comics?

I read the first one, the wizard and glass one, but that's it. Is that where the story of the comic goes?

Yeah, it focuses mainly on Young Roland and whatnot. Good stuff. I recommend them highly.

Yeah the comics are awesome.

The Battle of Jericho Hill alone is great.
