Actually, no I didn't. Not this time.
Not that I owe you or anyone else full disclosure, but when I had to say a final goodbye
to my cat Odus back in Oct. 09, I told myself and my wife that though I love animals,
I never wanted to be in that position again.
Fast-forward a year, my wife comes home with an 8 week old kitten she got from her co-worker.
People bring pets home all the time without their spouse's prior knowledge, and like many,
I couldn't say no once I saw how cute he was and how much my daughter loved him.
But it was not my idea. My family all agree that we need to find him a different home,
preferably one with other pets to hang out with. He's neither good with children, nor is he good with adults.
So keep your sanctimony to yourself. If you think that the thousands of animals in shelters in this country are
only there because they were strays, or abused, or neglected, you'd be wrong.
Making sure my daughter doesn't end up with bite marks or claw scratches supercede any personal "responsibility"
you might think I oblige this fucking animal.

i've never understood the whole "guys can't own cats" mantra. you ever see the way some men act around their dogs? it can be a little uncomfortable.

cats know their space and yours. they're not needy.

My female cat is needy, very much like a dog. She follows me everywhere, jumps all over me and crys when I leave.

What's with all these middle aged men referring to other men as a cat?

I've heard Danny Mac, Rob Dibble, and Dennis Miller do this on more than one occasion. Comes off as lame white man speak. I think Spiegs does it too.

I have two cats that are going with the ex -wife when we sell the house. One is siamese and a badass and
the other one is a black cat that fetches. They both have their claws and seem well adjusted although
they will fight once in a while and puke on the carpet occasionally. That is what cats do. I don't think
I'll ever get another cat but they have been interesting. I prefer my 2 dogs.

siamese cats are very weird; i'd never get a female cat regardless but female siamese are downright vicious ice princesses. the way they're portrayed in "lady in the tramp" is pretty spot on.

Mine is a male and he could go toe to toe with anything up to 30 lbs. At night he sleeps on my neck
and purrs. I have a feeling he thinks he is guarding me. I know they are weird. He can open doors
and all kinds of weird stuff.

yeah i had a male snowshoe which is part siamese and he was awesome. very affectionate but also very dutiful and was very smart.

funniest thing about him, and i don't know if yours does this, but he has some kind of infatuation with feet. slept at our feet, slept with shoes, and would carry socks in his mouth as if it were his young. hilarious to watch.

No nothing like that. This one either likes you or hates you. Too many pets on the head and he
turns into Dracula and mauls you. I have a good relationship with him and understand him now.
Both my cats were rescues and the siamese was abused. He was returned to the shelter 3 times
and they were going to put him to sleep but my now ex and I thought we could turn him around.
The people that had him before had him locked in the bathroom for 3 days with no food or water
since they didn't know what to do with him. When we got him from the shelter they could barely
trim his claws, had to wrap him in a towel and he tried to scratch their eyes out. Now he is fine
and purrs when it comes to claw trimming. Sometimes these things take time. Tough decision
to give up or put down an animal but you have to be steadfast in your thinking and just go for it.

My cat is extremely easy to deal with, however she likes to hide in various places in the condo and stalk both me and my wife.

Recently she's been hiding on a shelf in our closet and waits for either of us to reach in and attempt to grab something off a hangar.

That was popular in the 60's. The Rat Pack helped popularize it. If someone was said to be a cool cat or hep cat, that was a real compliment. I think it's just kinda a retro thing now.

gonna have to look but I'm pretty sure humans don't release pheramones

on a related note, how do you make a pheramone

Someone is lobbying for "Poster of the Day" or "Stupidest Thing I Read on the Message Board Today".

Looks more like the latter.

Cats are a tool we use to keep the rodent population under control in the barns. We have two- one from a house full of little girls who handled him from day one like a dolly, constant attention; the other from the neat, well-groomed single (?) guy from work, one of a pair that turned nasty on him. Today, Spiderman from the House of Girls is one step from feral, an unpettable bastard who will fight a raccoon and kills and eats mice daily. Tiger, the escapee from the burrito house, is the friendliest, most pettable friend on the farm. He loves kids and will sit for hours on the swing- prefers fowl to rodent, but loves to play with mice. He won't purr under any circumstances, though. Kinda odd how their personalities have flopped since coming to live with us.

Pretty sure we do...
Also look up the phrase 'orgone trail'... Cool concept... I believe it. Cats smell it, maybe see it.

Ill never forget the news report I saw on tv a little over a year ago where this cat was featured who lived @ a nursing home. Apparently this cat had an ability to seek out the person who was going to die next and would cozy up w/ that person before they passed on... This cat had accurately been a grim reaper for a long enough time to warrant a national news story... In the story, the reporters referenced a cats ability to sense pheramone shifts in the air... The empathy and obvious outward compassion is an entirely different debate.

Bump

Had a question for dog owners out there. My dog is a year old this month and he's either dumb at learning commands, I suck at teaching them, or more likely, both. It only took him a few months to learn "sit" and "come here" but he hasn't really learned much since then. Whenever I try to play fetch with him about 75% of the time he will run and get whatever I throw, no matter how far I throw it, and run back to me and then veer like 5-10 feet to my right and run to a spot there and sit. I cant seem to correct that and I've tried a variety of other things. Other things like roll over, jumping, and tricks with toys are hard for him to remember how to do after learning them short term.

My girlfriend wanted to pay to get him trained, but I'm cheap and have free time so I'd rather try to do it myself it I can google my way through it or get useful advice here. I'd like to try to take him hunting this fall/winter but a buddy of mine said realistically they arent useful for that til they are around 3 years old. Frank, and t bone and others, I know you guys seem to know a decent amount about dogs, any suggestions/advice? Jokes and mocking insults are welcome/expected also.
