Is anyone surprised about Bruce's breaking news??? I guess it was only a matter of time this spring that he'd have to see the doctor.

Not surprised, not mad, hope they can finally dump him and wood for good. Send them out to pasture.

What's the rush of getting rid of these guys? Why not keep K. Wood and M. Prior and let them continue to try and get healthy? Just to make the fans feel better?

I'm not sure if Linda S. was trying to be sarcastic or not, wish there was a way to let everyone know for sure but that was an extremely stupid comment if it was not sacrasim.

So having K. Wood and M. Prior in your system is a bad thing? What does it hurt if they're pitching in AA or AAA until they prove they can go more than a week without getting hurt?

it hurts if they're in the minors but making major league money.

They're making the money regardless.

Why do I care how much they're making? I'm not writing their paychecks.

Because the contract you gave them says you have to pay them.

You should care how much they're making because it's money that can be spent elsewhere. What are you talking about Linda?

First off, I believe Kerry Wood is out of minor league options so you can't send him down.

Second, it hurts because they have to occupy a spot on the 40 man roster. If they will not be able to contribute on a regular basis, it's time to cut the cord folks.

I for one thought it was smart to get Kerry Wood back at a reduced rate. I figured he'd be worth the risk. As for Prior, I thought they got back in a corner by him asking for more money in arbitration. I'd let him rot and then trade him to some team willing to take a chance on the next 'big thing'. You might get a single A pitcher with no talent and have more.

Now that's a different debate Frank.
Yes, they should have let Woody go.
Prior they got for as much as Miller last year, so why not take a flier on him.
I think both are done now.

Prior was supposed to pitch 3 innings today in a minor league game/practice. He got through two and complained about a sore side. His velocity was way down as well.

Don't tell me the few million K. Wood and M. Prior are getting paid is going to make a difference in the make-up of the team.

For a cheap team (White Stocking), maybe.

I just don't see a reason to release two guys you have invested so much into, have them get healthy and contribute elsewhere.

What does it hurt if they're in the minors, where bums like J. Ryu Kyu and S. Marshall are pitching? Are you afraid K. Wood and M. Prior will take up their innings?

M. Prior is still young. He has major league experience.

Again, why let them go for nothing? Your answer is $$. MLB doesn't have a salary cap (the White Stocking might but that's just because their cheap) and when you're a team that generates revenue like the Cub, $$ shouldn't and does not matter.

No, cheap, boring, 2nd rate..... certainly not winning. I recall one World Series in the last God knows how many years. You call that winning?

I don't recall anyone calling out Spaulding for not being relevant.

It's just the opposite.

Thanks for kudos J.

The simple fact about Wood coming back for 3 M was he proved he could be effective in 2005 out of the bullpen. You got him to agree to be simply a late inning guy and it was worth a risk. You're paying Howry and Eyre both in excess of 3M so you might as well throw another 3 at the pen.

Prior really took the screws to the Cubs this year with the arbitration and asking for a ton more money. That's going to leave a mark with Jim Hendry and I wouldn't expect him back in 2008. At this point, you have to pay him but it looks like 'the next Tom Seaver' couldn't carry the really Tom Seaver's jock.
