Numerous outlets now reporting Cubs have offered him the job.

He must have knocked it out of the ballpark in the interviews plus Maddux seemingly has backed out due to his family issues (a damn shame IMO),

Reactions??

If he is the guy then I am completely fine with it. As I said in the other thread, I trust in Theo and Company right now.

I checked two sources that might be reporting if it is true, like CUBS.com and ChicagoBreakingSports.com

or did someone just assume because he lives in Milwaukee and Theo and Jed are in Milwaukee, so they had a second interview that he was offered a job?

According to Wikipedia, Jon Heyman says this is true.

You'd think. My reaction is skepticism but like others have said, you gotta trust the new regime.

It appears to me that Theo couldn't close the deal with Maddux & Sveum is backup choice.
My guess is that Sveum will accept & be named Cubs Manager either tomorrow or Friday.

I wouldn't say Theo couldn't close the deal, it's that Maddux had the family considerations.

Sounds right. Plus he knows the guy from Boston. He was 3B coach on the '04 championship team.

If you are Mike Maddux, how in the hell do you turn down the Cubs Managers job? Plus, your Brother works for the Cubs!

Which leads me to believe that Theo/Hoyer liked Sveum better.

My Chicago Cubs, 2011 World Off-season Champions! I hope they still bring in Maddox for something.

I guess he didn't want to lose his spot in the rotation with his wife.

That's what happened w/ Ryno and his 1st wife.

And Ryno still can't emerge from the sticks (i.e. the minor leagues).

Sveum did manage the Brewers at the end of 2008 and in the playoffs, for whatever thats worth. Supposedly he's big on stats and defensive positioning. Sounds good to me if he can handle a pitching staff.

I love how Kaplan is not the one breaking any of this story. Better find a new source for your info leaks.

Why is Sveum waiting to hear from Boston though before accepting the job? I don't like that. If you want the job you take the job.

It only took Sveum 12 games to get in the playoffs in his only other managing job.

Ill take it

He looks like this guy

Cubs are doing a pretty good job covering leaks so far. I'm sure that is driving Kaplan up the wall.
