I know this was a board topic last week...but I was too lazy to find it and add this link from the Cubs website. Good to see they are looking at him and working him out.

If you haven't heard of Yoenis Cespedes, you will soon.

The Cubs will have a private workout with the 26-year-old outfielder, who is considered to be the best player in a generation to come out of Cuba. The Cubs will have plenty of competition if they decide to pursue the five-tool outfielder. The Red Sox, Phillies, Indians, Blue Jays, Pirates, Rangers, Tigers, Nationals, Athletics, Marlins and Yankees are reportedly interested in him as well, and he worked out for the Marlins front office on Thursday.

Cespedes (pronounced SES-peh-des) played on the Cuban national team and has been training in the Dominican Republic. A right-handed hitter, he set Cuba's single-season home run record this past season, with 33, his record-setting blast coming on a grand slam. The record was matched on the season's last day by Jose Dariel Abreu.

Cespedes played hard for Cuba
Cespedes' RBI singleCespedes would have to negotiate a series of visa processes before he could be declared a free agent. His asking price was expected to rival the $30 million deal Cuban pitcher Aroldis Chapman signed with the Reds

Gotta wonder if they are gonna want to invest 30 million in a guy who has never played a game at the major league level. They spent foolishly on Fukudome and are finally done with that deal. The clips I saw of the guy look good. He looks like a guy that has great athletic skills and I noticed a Sosa-like hop after he hit one of his HR's. Gonna be curious to see just how aggressive teams are gonna be with this guy.

Adam Dunn was a PROVEN power hitter, how did that work out?
It's a crap shoot. Of course they could sign him and trade him
for somepitching prospects.

I think it is alot easier to evaluate a Cuban player and project how they will play in the bigs than it is to do the same with a Japanese player. Look at the seasons some of Whistler's favorite ex-cubs put up in Japan after sucking balls in the big leagues. Matt Murton was damn near the MVP over there last year.

Why would someone trade for him when they can just sign him while he is a free agent?

The Cubs might win a bidding war. They then can put him out there to see if someone really wants him BAD and give up a few prospects for Cespedes and CASH. In turn, the Cubs might get 2 prospects they would not get otherwise for say 5 mil (thrown in with the trade)?

Yo JP, this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. Mean that respectfully.

Cubs in on Jorge Soler, the 19-year old version of Cespedes. This is the kid they should get.

Fuck it. Get 'em both! 103 years and counting is enough.
