Well obviously they're going to have to sign someone off the street now. And actually, since Omiyale didn't come into the game, that's further proof that he's persona non grata, and so you might as well sign two new guys.

I know this has to suck for C Williams, but to be blunt, I'm not sure how much this hurts the team.

He was playing limp -wristed most of the year anyway. If only he could throw a javelin.

Hurts the Bears if this means more Frank Omiyale.

yep.

I don't think Williams is all that great but the alternatives are much worse.

Well the alternatives on the roster might be worse (maybe... let's see what ol' Edwin can do). But I just can't believe there isn't a single free agent out there that can't do what Chris Williams does.

The Bears brought in Spencer, who was (and is) considered mediocre at best, and you could argue he's their best lineman.

Anytime a starter is removed from the line, it has to be considered unfortunate. He would not have been starting unless they felt he was better than the guys on the 2nd string. I think Williams gets a lot of crap still, for being a bust at Tackle. Sure he was a bad tackle and he was a pretty poor guard initially. But in the past few games, he had performed pretty well.

I get your point ajent, but when Frank Omiyale was a starter and removed from the line it was cause for great celebration. It was anything but unfortunate.

But then, which one(s) are markedly better than him?

I would go:

1. Garza
2. Louis
3. Carimi
4. Spencer
5. Webb
6. Williams

Carimi could be 1 or 2, but not enough games played to truly evaluate.

Again-the fact is, that Williams had performed well in the past few games. People just have this impression of him as a bust because he did so poorly when he was at tackle and initially at guard. But the fact is, he had performed well in the past few games and was playing at a level that was deserving of credit, rather than all the critical remarks seen here. Get past his earlier play and focus on the past few games and I think THAT PLAYER will be missed....at least a little bit.

No, I have the impression of him that I have because I see him pull and am impressed. Then I see him get to the spot he is pulling and either outright missing blocks or choosing to hit no one.

He is adequate at best. There is no reason the Bears should not be looking to upgrade at the position.
