Baseball people all like the guy and Francona was a hire that many were less than excited by too. I just want to see if fundamentals improve under his leadership. Also, how he handles the pitching staff, which in my opinion is perhaps the biggest factor.

Let's see what the guy can do. Theo knows him from Boston so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. You can see he ain't no pushover though - like Mike "the Mad Clapper" Quade.

This would be easy to laugh at but you never know. Managers are like refs. You only really notice their affect on a game when they fuck up. Most management decisions come out of a manual. Swaim will be fine if he uses the manual. You can only go rogue if you got the horses to do it. Look for a very generic 1st season.

Good managers are made in October. I dont see the Cubs remotely close to Cincy, Milwaukee or St. Louis. We may never know how good he is or could be. At least with the Cubs.

Not originally a Hawk line at all. The first time I heard it was from Tommy Lasorda in the 1970's. I am gonna venture a guess that he wasn't the originator either...
