Not nearly as many acts as last year had that I wanted to see. As much as it pains me to admit it, it looks like Bonnaroo has a better lineup. I wonder if they'll have LCD Soundsystem play immediately preceeding Daft Punk?:P

(Sound of Silver is a phenomenal record, by the way)

Not worth the price of admission. Hopefully some of these bands will be coming through the city on their own.

Bonarroo is by far the best festival out there. I went to Bonarroo the first year back in '02. I had a blast, although I know spending three days in the dirt with 100 degree temperatures and hippies everywhere isn't everyone's idea of a party. Lolla will most likely add a bunch of bands in the next months, just like Bonarroo will.

The 10,000 lakes fest in Minnesota is a great fest in a very secluded, scenic area.

Anyone old enough to remember H.O.R.D.E.?

Watching a very young Dave Matthews and John Popper playing by themselves on a side stage with 50 people watching was an experience.

Some of those early ('91, '92) HORDE fests were great. I went to '95 or '96.

H.O.R.D.E. was my first concert ever, with Kula Shaker, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Ben Folds Five, Leftover Salmon, Morphine, Primus, Beck, and Neil Young & Crazy Horse.

Saw Leftover Salmon in Seattle 15 years ago. Bought a CD which I still listen to. Do they still play?

As much as a novelty act as they now appear in retrospect, I still love me some Primus. Their DVD that they recorded at the Aragon a couple years ago was good stuff.

In the late 90's, Leftover Salmon was my favorite band to see live. Their banjo player died a few years back, and they all kinda went their own ways with side projects, but they are getting back together this summer. They describe their music as Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass. I have a 3-CD live show from The Old Town School of Folk Music, 4/2/2000.

Primus is no novelty act. They are as talented as any band out there. Since Primus took time off a few years back, Les Claypool has come to the dark side of the "jam scene", and really refined his sound. Primus sounds better than ever.

I can't remeber the year, but the line up I saw was:
1) Paula Cole
2) Mighty Mighty Bosstones
3) Barenaked ladies
4) Ben Harper & the innocent criminals
5) Blues traveler

On the side stage only Bare Jr. & the Thunder Cloud dancers were memorable.

i stress "appear". and some of the lyrics and approaches to music were goofy. but no doubt they were talented. they were a weird band, and as a lifelong fan of ween, they might be giants, and nintendo music, i love the weird. so i still love primus.

I agree with the "appear" portion, too, with both Ween and Primus. While I'm no expert on the subject, it seems to me that Primus has three of the finest musicians around comprising their lineup, and Ween's songwriting skill is unparalleled.

By the way, you can pick up an autographed copy of Claypool's novel Tales From The Pumphouse at the Book Cellar on Lincoln for the same as the cover price :)

I went to the one where Arrested Development performed. We met a lot of guys but it's really not my thing.

last year was Sonic Youth with 200 opening acts
this year is FLASHBACK REUNION SHOW featuring Roky Erickson, The Stooges, Patti Smith, and about a hundred opening acts.

what a fucking overpriced suckfest. i hope it's 100+ degrees again and the reflection off the millenium bean fries all attendees like so many ants.

okay, i take it back, i do hope it's 100+ degrees again, but i don't hope anyone fries like an ant. not that i know of, at least, and certainly not any of you upstanding gentlemen and dames who post on this fine message board.
