Caleb Hanie is as good or better than 3 of the next 4 QBs the Bears will be facing (Palko, Tebow, Jackson/Whitehurst) and Ponder is a rookie. He doesn't need to go out there and be spectacular for the Bears to comfortably win 4 more games.

Agreed. The fact that it's getting cold will only help the defense. I see the Bears going 5-1 even with Hanie.

Not to go all FarveFan on everyone but I hope Peterson and McFadden are out for the games against the Bears.

I think the Bears have a shot in every game except the Packers but I don't love them on the road against the Raiders or Vikings.

Heard the following part of a conversation in the office this morning:

"I was driving on the Express Way today and this woman in an SUV in front of me rolls down her window and drops a banana peel on the road. TURNS OUT O’Doyle had a Green Bay Packers license plate holder….so it was pretty expected that she would just dump trash on the road because that’s what shes used to."

What scares me is who is backing up Hanie? The Bears refuse to do what most teams do: Have one young turk and one somewhat credible veteran backing up your QB. They failed miserably last year with Collins,BUT I still beleive that is the way the roster should look. What's Brian Griese doing?

If they can go 4 and 2 in these last games that would put them at 11-5 which I would assume get them a wildcard spot. Hopefully then Cutler can get back for the playoffs.

This whole deal sucks, but the schedule down the stretch gives some hope

I think assface makes it back in five weeks for the Vikings then leads the Beloved to a playoff victory against the Cowboys/Giants.

Hanie is awful.

IMO, he is not clearly better than anyone.

Id like to hear the case for him.

His one play in the NFC championship game was a floating 12 yd out that turned into a TD because Woodson and the safety decided to let the other guy make the tackle.

He's got the Jimmylegs in his feet. Too much movement.

I mean, maybe he can be ok, but I dont think he's shown any signs of anything.

He's slightly mobile. Thats the selling point.

Matt Flynn backs up Rodgers. Most team with really good QB's don't have a veteran QB backing them up. Just look at the Colts this year.

Matt Flynn is not that bad. He has developed quite a bit as the backup. He damn near beat the Patriots last year. If someone would have tackled the offensive lineman that returned the kick to the 5 yd line they probably would have won.

I'm just pointing out that most teams with really good to great QB's don't have veterans backing them up.

We don't have a lot of history to work with in making a case that he is good. I don't think he is awful. He has a strong arm and decent mobility.

I imagine he is like most of the backups in this league. He shouldn't be asked to make big plays but he can hand off without falling over himself and can make a few throws. The biggest issue will be not to throw interceptions.

He's not afraid to pull the ball down and run. The guy has heart too. That's always a good thing. I predict he'll have a cult following when Cutler returns.

I would not be shocked to hear a debate over who should start come playoff time.

This is the most level headed thing I've read in the last 24 hours...

Yep, I don't think there's any reason to believe Hanie is better than the crapheap quarterbacks the Bears will be playing in the next 4-5 weeks. The mere fact that we haven't seen much of him isn't a good reason for optimism in this case (if anything it should be taken as even greater reason for skepticism, as the Bears apparently didn't trust him enough to give him significant playing time even in games that were clear blowouts this year). Also, his play in the NFC Championship game was not that great. He was regularly hanging his receivers out to dry over the middle and his success in that game stemmed more from the Packers defense playing too conservative/stupid than any of his own merits in my opinion.
