uninspired: fine, i get that. i've been there many times. however, the only way out for me was to keep at it.
too old: disagree. i'm older than you and still writing/playing, etc...and getting better at it.
It is important to keep expectations at a reasonable level.

I do not believe that the time spent writing/practicing/rehearsing/recording/playing as amateur musicians and the schedules we have kept has ever interfered with everyday life to the point where it has become problematic.
