His role is gonna be much like it was with the Cubs. He's going to be in uniform and working with all the pitchers in spring training. But during the season he will just be a roving instructor who will go visit the various minor league squads for a few days here and there. Still, it's unfortunate to lose someone like Greg. But when you look at the level of performance of the pitchers before he joined the Cubs staff and afterwards....there didn't seem to be any very significant impact. i know Wells raved about him and all he learned from Maddux, but he still had an ERA of 4.99 I doubt this has a significant effect. Now if Maddux was ready to take on the role of a bench coach/pitching coach, and be with the team all season....
