2 years, $10 mill, solid signing, no issue

Leaves room for plenty

I'm gonna need his stats from last year before I give my opinion.

Don't like the signing. He's coming off a down year.

So it's me & HOVA on one side, the rest of you on the wrong side.

Unless they are just clearly saying he's a warm body for the next 2 years until the real roster is in place.

I think that's much closer to the truth than them saying the Cubs are one player away from winning the World Series and that one player is David DeJesus and his ridiculously hot wife.

Buying low.

Getting a guy who is usually a 2.5 War coming off a 0.6

Pretty good defensively too. Good range

The guy was also coming off at 6 year $19M contract. He's also 32.

Went from hitter friendly KC to Oakland.

His BAbip last year was .274. Thats pretty low. Should bounce back some.

I think at 5 million, he's fine.

David Dejesus does not mean Brett Jackson will not be around / starting often.

This might mean Marlon Byrd and / or (if God truly cares about mankind) Alfonso Soriano might be shown the door. If not, they will be rested very often in favor of Brett Jackson...David Dejesus would also have days off.

And this is all assuming Jackson will be ready to test his skills against Major League talent come April.

Agreed. DeJesus is a solid pro. Soriano should be toast with the Cubs probably eating 40M of the remaining 54M of that contract.

Exactly. Hitting in Oakland is a joke. He's a good solid player although not spectacular. Good signing to keep the team respectable in Year 1 of the brainiacs.

At first glance this looks like an unspectacular move but if it comes with the corresponding move of getting Marlon Byrd's useless ass out of town it will be a win. DeJesus isn't as bad a hitter as he was last year and he's still pretty good defensively. He also adds another left handed bat to the lineup and a little versatility in the outfield.

I also wonder if this means Tyler Colvin may be heading to Boston as part of the Theo compensation package.

I really like Marlon Byrd's hustle and attitude. I think he sets a great example for the younger players. that said, his power numbers are awful. I think it's got to be a priority to dump Byrd to any team willing to take him and the reasonable contract he has 1 year left on. if Colvin is given as compensation, so be it. he looked like a guy that might have real promise the year before last, but this past seasons performance gave way to a lot of questions. He's not a very good defender anyway, so his value is limited.

there is no chance at the cubs moving soriano...way too much $ to eat in a deal for this to be a realistic shot. i hope you are right and jackson gets his at bats but i think not after this signing.

Shouldn't all moves be judged on the stated philosophy that they will only pay for future performance coupled with the belief in Bill James theory about postion players hitting a downward slide at 32-33?

This one seems a failure on both counts.

He has low OBPs. He cannot steal a base, as you would like out of a utility OF. He has a very good arm but never struck me as a particularly good fielder. I don't think he can play CF. He fell off the table after having a very good 2010.

You brought this management team in because they are well organized and can articulate/stick to philosophy. The first signing has already swayed from the philosophy.

It's not that I don't like De Jesus. It's that, everyone got wet for regime change and this certainly is not a change.
