There is a possibility that in a deal with the State of Illinois, ownership of Wrigley Field would be transferred to the great state of Illinois, who would then spend hundreds of Millions to refurbish the ballpark. The Cubs would then pay rent each year to the state. I guess the rumors of the Ricketts family losing a good portion of their wealth may be true. To sell the ballpark and give up control of it seems like a move only a cash strapped organization would consider. Then again, if they can get a rent deal anything like the Sox have enjoyed since U.S. cellular was built, perhaps it's just a smart move.

The difference before was that Jerry R is the one previousely creating the deal. Yes, I do know that for a fact. So please spare me your opinions that he didn't.

As he knew Zell was not going to own the team, whoever did own them made this another anchor.

All that said, I dont think the Ricketts wealth has dropped that much as Ameritrade has fluctuated between 11 and 22 $ PS for last 5 years and is right around 16 these days, plus most of their money is at INCapital which is all about making money for people who have $100M plus, which Tom Ricketts owns.

So the thought it is being looked at due to poor wealth is a myth, the fact they might look at a good deal is probably true.

However, I dont see them doing such a deal. IMO
