I guess if you are saying among ALL rappers ever. In the pantheon of the greats he is not near the top.

I just dont get why some people think he's the best and that its a given. He's not close.

I guess that's how you feel about Biggie but I never hear Biggie ranked on top

Jay is definitely the most crossover and the biggest pop star of the rappers.

Lyrically he is extremely average...and has admitted this much in songs.

He has two really good debatably classic albums and a bunch of decent ones. None of them are especially good lyrically (Even his attempt at Depth on The Black Album)

I dont know why its been said here that Rakim fell off. He just got to the game earlier.

He started in 86 and released 4 straight 5 star classic albums.

No one has done that since.

I might have to amend my list. Even Nas had a couple misses.

This is what im sayin /\ Jay fans are soooo sure he's great.

He did not place higher than 5th on any lists other than yours and Nas.

Im not arguing that we are right, its an opinion. I just think the Jay fans misrepresent with the Everybody knows Jay is the best stuff.

The fact is a lot of hip hop fans dont think so.

You get what im saying?

This Jay Z talk from RPB is getting a little tiresome.

Anyway, Watch the throne is a sick fucking album. Every time I listen to it (like everyday) I find a new song/verse that I like.

I'm just saying, it's pretty clear where you stand on your opinion of Jigga.

Now Weezy on the other hand, easily GOAT

Ok, Im not expressing my opinion though.

Forget my opinion (save the we already do posts)

Im talking about the perception that all hip hop fans love him.

Everybody here pretty much respects the others who made top 25 lists. He was in the top 5 of two lists I believe.

Just facts.

And I dont know how you can like Lil wayne man. Really I dont get it.

Every time someone mentions Jay-Z I get this inexplicable craving for a Budweiser.

Look, musical taste can change daily. What I listen to today may not be what I'm in the mood for tomorrow. Jigga is easily in my rotation.

Honestly, women like Lil Wayne, so by default I like Lil Wayne.

And if you're at the UC tonight all ten of them might be "Niggas in Paris".

Jay z albums I own... 'reasonable doubt' 'black album' 'Kingdom Come'...

The repetitive nature of jayz's content really exposes the 'i don't write my lyrics technique'... I just pass on him now. Its the same old shit. Sorta like russell simmons rapping to me...

Reasonable doubt and the black album are without a doubt classics tho. Any hip hop head has to hear the contrast in styles on those two albums. Especially the black album. Even if just to hear the lucifer beat by kanye or the last track w/ the biggie audio @ the beginning...

Saw them in concert last night. After finally getting started at damn near 10 I must admit they put on a hell of a show. Without a doubt Kanye performed better. I want whatever he is taking. He had none stop energy. At one point he started sprinting. I will never listen to Niggas In Paris again. They did it 8 FUCKING times at the end of the show. I couldn't have been the only one in the crowd annoyed by it but based on the reaction of the fans it appears that I was.

RPB is still hating too. Let's take a look at Jay-Z work:

Reasonable doubt- Classic (should have went triple)
Life and Times of Shawn Carter Volume 1- Classic
Volume 2- Classic
Volume 3- Really good
Dynasty- Near classic
Blue Print- Classic
Best Of Both Worlds- Classic
Gift And The Curse (Blue Print 2)- Underrated. Would have been a Classic if it was just 1 album
Black Album- Classic
Kingdom Come- Extremely underrated
American Gangster- Classic (Possibly my favorite album)
Blue Print 3- Great
Watch The Throne- Great

Can't ride with you on Dynasty. Easily my least favorite "Jay-Z album" (" " because it was supposed to be a Roc Compilation album but it was made into his at the last minute).

Bigger star than Jay Z. Bigger right now I think.

Reasonable Doubt is a classic. Triple what? Platinum? Who gives a fuck. You obviously look at record sales...and thats fine but I dont. That appears to be the difference.

Vol 1-3: Good party albums. Nothing great.

Blueprint: Very good. Jay doesnt have the best verse though and stealing Renegade is the opposite of being an aritst IMO.

Black Album is a classic

Kingdome Come, American Gangster Blue print 3 and Throne are: Good

I do appreciate how much volume the guy does. I guess when you think he's at his best and killing it....that same stuff sounds really really good, but not great to me.

I have no idea. They just kept saying "AGAIN". Hell they closed the show after the first time and then came back out and did it 7 more times. It became really annoying to me but people continue to throw bras and D-Rose jerseys on the stage. Kanye wore a kilt too.

If you like a tracks with nothing but punch lines and a rapper that repeats it to make sure you understood his usually bad punch line then Lil Wayne is your guy. I like a little bit more than that. His last album wasn't as bad as I expected but the bar was really set low.

So like a less talented ocd version of Redman with a terrible voice and long hair?
