So where do the 90's Bills fall? Kelly, Thomas, Smith, Levy & James Lofton

They at least won a Conference Championship and played in the Finals.

They made the playoffs many many times and got to the NBA Finals twice.

The Cubs never made the playoffs, much less got to their sport's "finals"

I'm guessing Bill James might put Ferris Fain and Max Bishop in ahead of Rice and Dawson.

I think the closest you can get would be the 1970's Red Sox w/Fisk, Yaz, Rice, Tiant & Lynn(who aren't HOFers). But they at least won an AL title. (Edit: yet another long mythologized team 8) )

And Dwight Evans who Bill James insists was better than Jim Rice.

Was it Bill James who argued that Santo was almost as HOF worthy as Home Run Baker?

I think he has Baker the fifth best third sacker ever and Santo sixth.

To be sure, Santo's in tall company there.

I've heard more than enough about the wildly over-rated(imo) Bill James. He & his acolytes are working damn hard at sucking the fun out of the game for me. That they've won exactly two titles (with massive juicers on the payroll) always seems to be lost in the constant praise and overlovin'.

Only 2? He's been in the league 8 years.

The MLB voting committee are a bunch of POS's.

So he gets 94 percent of the vote AFTER he dies but wasn't worthy when he was living? We've heard the stories that a lot of ppl on that old man golden age committe hated Santo when he played and always stuck it to him when he was living by denying him induction.

Well they stuck it to him again by letting him in AFTER he died as a way to mock his career as a player and his family etc.. What a bunch of no life scumbags.

I am truly sorry that Ron Santo is dead, but his name does not belong in the Hall of Fame.

Unless they swap it in for Phil Rizzuto.

The guys on the veterans' committee are such petty bitches that Frank Coztansa looks like a well-adjusted and forgiving soul in comparison.

They should have really insulted him, and put him in the hall for his announcing career.

Are you talking about seven (7) time World Series Champion Phil "The Scooter" Rizzuto? The Phil "The Scooter" Rizzuto whose prime years were spent away from the Major Leagues while he heroically served in World War II?

Holy Cow!

We're you in the Red Sox club house when boys were being touched? Is that why you became a Yankee fan?

Technically, Bonds isn't eligible yet...hasn't been out 5 years.

You are correct, though. The HoF without Rose is just a load of bullshit.

The monster of whom you speak delighted in exclusively molesting young black boys. I used to be young, but I have never been black.

Sorry SJB about that!Bonds won't get in because,it justifies the voters that they didn't say or do shit when he was playing

I think it's unfortunate because of that, too...I have no issue with the steroid guys that deserve it to get in...Bonds included. They were a product of their era.

John McDonough practical joke. (always thought he was a jerk along with Stone for pulling this on Santo)

"We had a very good relationship. He was to me almost like an older brother. I did most of the listening. He really improved my listening skills. We had some well-chronicled incidents. One time we played a bit of a prank on him when we told him we were going add Steve Stone to the broadcast booth and he was not too pleased about that. I think he threatened to quit at the time.

"We told him that he was going to be the third man in the booth behind Pat and Steve Stone. But we did it in a press release and when we spoke of all the accolades and achievements of Pat Hughes and Steve Stone and the last sentence said 'he will also be joined by former Cubs player Ron Santo.' He threatened to quit. He was going across the street to find the general manager of WGN radio.

I never saw Santo play, so I cannot tell you if he is deserving or not to be a HOF. I too sometimes think of my fathers generation who saw him play, if they're un-bias in their opinion of him and the HOF.

I know he was really MR CUB more than the official MR CUB back then. And his jester like post baseball career in the media also helped him with the cub faithful. So all the people who wanted him to make it, was it just more of liking the guy because he was a cub and was part of those losers in 69 and somehow him being in the HOF made them feel better or something......

Stone wasn't in on this. They were pranking Santo for the mutual hatred that he and Stone had for each other.

Steve,
Stone himself told this story a few weeks ago on the radio. He was in on it.
