Steve,
Stone himself told this story a few weeks ago on the radio. He was in on it.

I stand corrected. They really did hate each other, though. I can't believe Stone would talk about him now because he didn't say a word to him when he was alive.

Yeah,I think Steve said Mcdouhnah had him come in the office and sit next to Santo. Steve desribed Santo's face changing colors. Yeah, real nice gag. The guy could have dropped dead right there.

Oh come on Jimmy, that story was hilarious. Where's your sense of humor?

I think it's unfortunate because of that, too...I have no issue with the steroid guys that deserve it to get in...Bonds included. They were a product of their era.

i agree with this, too. it's nauseating to hear all the grand standing about steroid era guys who still belong in the HOF that may not make it because of this hypocrisy. people have cheated throughout baseball's history. it's part of its mystique. there were a lot of guys that used steroids that won't make the HOF regardless. while the giambi MVP was a travesty, he is most likely not a HOF'er and frank thomas definitely is. so who's gonna have the last laugh anyway?

if the player was great, they were great. steroids only gave bonds more home runs. in his prime, he was still amazing.

Not only that, they never even sniffed the playoffs. Truly remarkable for a team with four HOF players plus a HOF manager.

Would be nice if at the induction ceremony one of Santo's kids takes the mic after Ron is inducted and tells them to take their award and shove it 40ft up collective asses.

Yeah, but the guys who voted him in were a bunch of new guys. The cast includes Roland Hemond and Billy Williams. I think if your voting for guys from a certain era, than they should be voted in (or out) by guys they played with or against and writers, broadcasters and baseball execs that actually seen them play.

As much as Santo was loved by his teammates and Cubs fans, he was absolutely despised by other players in the league and sportswriters at the time who found him to be an arrogant prick.

This one goes out to all the doubters including Danny (Mister SABERMETRICS) B.

By wWAR, Ron Santo ranks 76th all time. That's just 75 players in the game's history—all eras, all positions (including pitcher)—who have a better case than Santo. Yet somehow, he's just getting in (31 years after his first ballot appearance).
Of those 75 players, 70* are in the Hall of Fame. Two others would be enshrined if they weren't banned (Pete Rose and Joe Jackson). One died in 1911 (Bob Caruthers). Another played his last game as a 41-year old third baseman one hundred years ago (Bill Dahlen). The last has only been turned down once by the BBWAA and still has a good chance of being elected soon (Jeff Bagwell).

Dan has said he thought Santo deserved to be in. He just didn't want him to because of the bitching and moaning Santo did about it.

Terry is the one who did not believe Santo deserved to be in the Hall Of Fame.
